Marek Malik should have been the #1 star....

A beastly performance by #8, he played an absolute gem of a game. Hes been on for a while now. Excellent effort by the big man. It also makes it kind of tough to trade the guy, considering hes been so damn awesome lately.

my fav part was him actually being tough in front of the net. If he keeps that up hes ok in my book.

Not at all.

What makes is tough is that we lost Mara so now we probably need to hold onto him.

let that value go up. heck, all off ice trouble aside (which is enough for me to say good bye), he's an impending UFA that plays a premium position. if we can get decent value for it, all the better.

Hardly. I was at the game tonight, and while he definitely looked good, he was far from stellar. Defensively he still had some lapses, and at times he looked lost on the ice. Still, he played a very good game tonight, and the 3 stars could have been completely different. Everyone looked good out there tonight.

thats it exactly. there are not too many sellers and the fact that some defense rosters are ravaged with injury (DET) will drive Malik's price up.

I thought he played a good game...his best game since, well, the last time the Panthers played at MSG.

Now the question is, do they hold onto him and hope that he builds on tonight's game and continues to play well or do you consider this a showcase and manage to get a good deal for him? I guess we will find out Tuesday.

i think im going to take the same approach as i do with anyone. if the right deal comes along, move him. just dont force a trade and accept crap in return. Our D is thin at the moment and we cant have it get any thinner.

yeah mara is just that valuable to this team.. mara is just as physically lacking as malik and any other d-man on this team..

malik a plus 58 in 2 full seasons in vancouver with cloutier as your goalie, and a plus 63 in 3 seasons as a ranger.. i think it could be alot worse.. i'll take malik any day..

btw mara career minus 95.. malik plus 132

I just honestly do not see him getting traded. When he's healthy and confident, he makes our defense better. Yes, I said it.

I see his performance now only as a direct result of the rest he's had this year. I believe that during the last stretch of 18 games, Malik's going to be vulnerable and won't be this confident. He's not going to have this strong of a stride in three weeks or so.

I thoroughly agree.

I find it pathetic that when he was announced for the goal, I heard boo's.

I really, really find it pathetic.

He honestly hasn't been too bad since mid January. I think he is far better than Strudwick(who also had a pretty good game tonight).

I agree. If a deal comes along that can upgrade the D by trading Malik, I'm all for it. But if we are being offered draft picks, that simply won't help this year's team.

Agreed 100%. We are in no position to trade Malik for a draft pick or prospect. We are right in the thick of things in the East and are short on defenseman as it is. He has had his ups and downs, but when he's played well he can be pretty damn effective. He may not be overly phsyical, and he is prone to the occasional bonehead turnover, but he's got a quick stick in front of the net and he does make some very smooth outlet passes.

He has a better plus then most dmen in the league, I guess that makes him a top 3 dman in the entire league right? I mean if we are just going by Plus minus then he must be one of the elite dmen around.

Nope. Just makes him far better than those that claim he puts his team in the hole whenever he steps onto the ice.

I know when I heard Malik's name (being in 405 really prevents you from seeing the numbers that well), I went nuts. Others were booing, but I was absolutely fanatical at that point.

Pretty much everyone was great tonight, but Malik was very good.

Nice to see Malik get cheered (mostly) when he was announced the second star. Also nice to see him applaud the crowd.

But whoever said Mara is just as physically lacking as Malik needs to watch the games more closely.
