Latest Rumors (from Hamilton Spec, Toronto Star & Sun)
Did you hear that stat Daniels said on Saturday...the Wings have the most players making $1.5 or $1 million and under in the league. Holland has been masterful with the cap so far. He'll do what's necessary to get a guy like Campbell or Hossa in the fold. I can't imagine him trading for guys like that as rentals.
-Atlanta wants actual players not Draft picks for Hossa. A number of players Don Waddell was looking at in Montreals System could be part of the deal. Kyle Chipchura, Mikhail Grabovski, Pavel Valentenko; Mathieu Carle; Ryan O'bryne; Sergei Kostitsyn or Andrei Kostitsyn. Don has also said if he trades Hossa no goalies will be involved.
-Cliff Fletcher said this morning at 6:30 that he is looking at some serious offers this morning that he was given over the weekend.
-Bryan McCabe said in the national post that he would be open for a trade if the trade is in his best interest. The teams listed are nyr, nyi and philly
- National post also mention possible trade with nyr and cgy that would send Tangauy to nyr for Straka, Marek Malik and prospect Artem Anisimov
- Brian Campbell said if he leaves as a fa he will be looking at somewhere over 6 mill a season.
- Its reported that Olli Jokinen rumors are down to four teams: Dallas, Montreal, Minnesota and Calgary. If Jokinen gives up on the Panthers the Minnesota Wild has been a long time suitor
Possible players being dealt at the deadline and who wants him
Marian Hossa: Montreal, Anaheim and Detroit.... Toronto Star says he will be traded to Montreal
Dan Boyle: SJ, NYR, MTL... Star says SJ
Alex Tangauy: Montreal and Pittsburgh, Toronto Stars says Montreal
Brian Campbell: sj, nyr, nj and det
Adam Foote: NJ< SJ, OTT
Sergei Fedorov: det, mtl and ottawa
EDM's 1st round pick held by Ana: tor, la, nyi, cbs, pho and edm
So according to the Star, the Habs are getting both Tanguay and Hossa? Impressive!
The Habs would have to give more than Ryder for Tanguay. Sutter's not too interested in draft picks unless there are no other options. I think he likely has his eye on Higgins instead.
Consistant gritty efforts is Keenans type. I don't think Ryder is that. Not to mention he'd just be a rental. The Flames need something more long term.

higgins won't be dealt for tanguay. gainey has already gone public that he's not touching any of his young core. he has said over and over again. for those of you that can read french you can read for yourselves. BUT he has said all other prospects are on the table and probably someone like ryder and maybe bit parts like dandenault

So you are basically saying that Gainey won't move at the deadline. A signed Hossa won't only cost prospects that aren't even playing in the NHL like Chipchura and Grabovski.
I'm going to laugh if Montreal ends up getting no one. Everybody and their dog is rumoured to go to Montreal.
Me too. Gainey seems too cautious a GM to take a chance on losing Hossa for nothing in free agency after paying a king's ransom in players and picks for him.
As a Habs fan, the cycle is neverending, especially with rumourmongers like Eklund about.
Hmmmm interesting.... Cant say I would be opposed to it, but I thought the latest rumour was that he was signing back with the Jackets???
I would love to pickup Malhotra and Foote, but at what cost???
I would expect the likelyhood that Foote gets traded to under 10%. He says he wants to stay here an Howson is trying to resign him. Foote also has a NTC. i believe there is still a chance Howson could ask to have it waived and moved if they are completely far apart in their contract talks but that seems unlikely since he has basically indicated he's willing to work past the trade deadline to resign him.

Flames don't need Dandenault and Ryder won't cut it unless there really isn't anything else available. I don't think Sutter is desperate enough to move Tanguay, to take Ryder in return. I think he'd rather just stay the course and move him around the draft if he can't get anything he likes. Still, I hope he does get something he likes, and a deal done.
According to TSN, they actually are trying to get both of them.
That would have the Habs making the biggest splash, wouldn't it? Even if Hossa, Jokinen, Richards, etc, get moved. It would be a huge coup for the Habs if they could pull that off.
Don't get me wrong 'Namso', I don't think they'll pull both Hossa and Tanguay. That's why it would be so shocking. I think they'll go for Hossa and if that doesn't work, then Tanguay as a consolation prize.
i love how all non-hab fans dissed habs prospects and now are all clamoring for them
by the way there are about oh 30 teams that would want an o'byrne. but he's not available
Come on now. If the Habs had a shot at Hossa and could keep him in the fold for the next six years, you don't think they would part with a guy like O'Byrne if that's who Atlanta was after?
If Tanguay goes to the Habs, how about Higgins in return? Seems to be more a Sutter/Keenan type of player. If I ran the Flames, no deal for Ryder but Higgins for Tanguay....I'd do that.
ya you would but no way in hell do the habs trade Higgins straight up for Tanguay.
Higgins does a lot more for the habs than Tanguay could ever dream of doing. i think the flames should hold on to the great player the call Tanguay.
