While you're eagerly awaiting the onslaught you might enjoy taking a look at and discussing some of last year's deadline deals.

There were 6 deals the day before the deadline last year.

We have 1 this year and lots of speculation.

Look at all the deals before the deadline. Big difference from then and now, all we get are signings now.

No I think it was Lundmark, 2nd 07, 2nd 08.

Smyth trade needed to be done.
We'll see how Alex Plante turns out but, i'm happy with Nilsson. He's shown the ability to beat guys 1-on-1, something the Oilers don't have outside of Hemsky.
O'Marra might never make it.

Overall, i'd do the deal again.

Thanks for the link.

Had to throw this out there though. Pretty bad trade from a Duck's perspective...

Ducks

Mark Hartigan, C
Joe Motzko, RW
Fourth-round conditional pick (2007 or 2008)

For

Jackets

2007 first-round pick

Future considerations

That is not even close to what the trade actually was. The Jackets got Glencross and Konopka for Hartigan and Motzko.

yeah that makes more sense...couldn't see it being Lunds, a 1st, 4th, 2nd and futures...i Love Conroy here in Calgary but that just seems like a lot lol

Los Angeles Kings traded Craig Conroy to the Calgary Flames for Jamie Lundmark, a 4th round selection in 2007 and a 2nd round selection in 2008

And don't forget tons more deals well before the deadline. This deadline won't amount to anything. Don't get your hopes up. I'm trying hard not to think about it.

I really respect Sutter but, the Stuart deal was awful.
Yes, Kobasew needed a change of scenery but, Ference man. What a warrior.

Pretty sweet that Tampa got rid of its 2005 5th round pick for Jason Ward (ok, this deadline has been slow if I am bringing up typos).

But I agree about Dallas- no (own) 1st round picks last year or this year.

Buffalo-Zubrus- we need more players of his type- but at least we got the 31st pick (when we gave up the 27th).

But yep, last year- more deals the day before the deadline. 8ish hours before the madness (or lack of madness) begins.

I miss Soupy already.

Nah.

There might not be many "big" deals but, there will be lots of depth and character guys moving,

Wow if it really was that then I feel much better, I always thought we gave up two 2nds for some reason.

Yes it was, even though Stuart was our best d-man in the playoffs, he left and we got screwed bad on this one. Sutter hasn't done great during the trade deadline, he traded Reinprecht + for LeClerc and Boucher etc. Thankfully the good trades he has done outweighs the bad but still.

He made some brilliant deals in 2004. As weird as it sounds, that team doesn't go all the way without Nieminen imo.

The Vandermeer pick up was very nice too.

Well, to be fair it was a shallow draft. And at least Buffalo gave up their first for a player.....we had to give up our first to get rid of Malakhov. Plus Buffalo got a high 2nd rounder for Biron who was their backup goalie. So essentially they traded their backup goalie for a decent role player.

It's not like the Sens are losing any sleep over losing a late 2nd rounder anyways.

He scored the game winning goal in game one of the Eastern Conference finals.
That alone is enough of a trade off considering we got a 7th rounder back who will turn out to be a gem in the form of a 5th rounder this year.
