Kudos to Holmgren

I know its early on in the deadline process, but I think Homer made a splash with the Propsal trade -- he acquired a forward for a prospect who wasn't held in high regard with the team for various reasons and a conditional pick. Knowing Homer, if he plays his cards right, Prospal may even fit into the long term plans of the team, and he may look to sign him long term.

Now, this deal may come back to bite us, especially if Picard pans out (I think he'll be a fine offensive defenseman in the 3rd-4th defender role, personally) but even so, is Prospal helps this team continue its turn around, who knows what might happen.

My kudos to Homer is for getting a deal done, getting a good player for a relatively cheap price, recognizing a need when it arose, and having the guts to pull of a trade that may not be very favorable in the long run.

I think Holmgren has proved the only thing he may make a mistake in is overspending on a free agent or two (which may even work to our benefit in the long run). Let's give the guy his credit for now.

The way Carter played tonight, with a bit of edge, great speed (and skating strides), and ON-TARGET shooting, I think Carter will be next season's Richards. He is only 23 years old people -- this kid could be like this until he is 25 for all I care, I think he'll eventually get it. When he plays with a bit of gusto and keeps his legs moving, he can be a somewhat dominant player.

Hopefully it doesn't turn into another Justin Williams type of trade.

That would have worked out if Markov wasn't a nutjob...

Carter did something I haven't seen him do in his career:

He took over the game.

We've seen splotches of his talent, little snippets - but tonight, he took over the whole game. Dominant every shift. He showed franchise talent tonight (not that he'll do it consistently), but he showed it.

Looked like Malkin. Good to see - I want to see more.

cant see it happening that deal was established player for established player.
I havent seen anything out of Picard that gives me a indication he will be a impact player.

This is something he did soooooo well in the OHL. He didn't really have any support staff with the Greyhounds, so he took over games by himself on several occasions.

I fully expect us to leave the trade deadline with another defenseman...but if we dont, still happy with Homer.

I dont want us to trade Carter though...I was gonna see if he stepped up with him being now one of our main threats, and thats exactly what he did. I hate to say it, but Cannon, Lupul, and Gagne being injured may have been the best thing for his development, similar to Malkin's situation.

Holmgren didn't have buy toilet paper for quite a few months because of all the tongue wagging in his direction for his dump trades last season. Questions arose with his signing last offseason, but he was still held in very high regard.

He still built this not really a team yet and has acquired or kept useless old D-men that once were supposed leaders that are no longer viable in either role now and has hurt this team immensely.

He just dumped some trash for a guy who has a bit of a princess streak, couldn't stand the pea in his mattresses in TB so they just went and won a Cup after he left-couldn't stand the pea in the matresses in Anaheim so they went and won a Cup after he left. Are the Flyers next to benefit from him leaving? That would be nice.

We'll see how today plays out, but I will reserve the right to judge him on the outcome, not pat him on the back for making deals just to make deals that so far haven't shown his vision for the future.

so i was wathing the game on VS last night. and between each period the boys on set were talking about trades and the deadlines. they seemed to agree that PHI was very deep at forward, even with their injuries and they really needed D help. so they should trade a forward for a Dman to help their future and not make desperate grabs at this season.

a few hours later i am in bed listening to the radio and i hear it announced that PHI got prospal and paid a D prospect to get him.

i found that very amusing.

Yes I can.

There are so many nuances to that sentence, I am not sure exactly what you meant, but I laughed my ass off anyway.

Could possibly just be a move before another move.

Quite possibly, maybe a deal in the works with Umberger, Upshall, or Knuble + going somewhere for a defenseman.

Maybe Prospal's going in lieu of trading the young'uns.

I might give Homer a wag for that.
