Ouch.
I'm glad he did not do the Hossa trade because looking at what pIttsburgh paid, Higgins was obviously one of the pieces they wanted. There is no way as a gM you trade Higgins for a rental. Shero will look dumb for giving up 2 solid roster players and their 2007 and 2008 1st rounders for a rental. Yeah they have a leg up on the East but do they have a legit #1 goalie in the group?

I'm a lot more disapointed in the Huet trade and not adding a veteran center or d-man than missing out on Hossa at that price.

Told you Gainey was bluffing

Posted it here a few days ago, This magical "impact player" is not comming to montreal, he just made the pens pay big time for a rental..wow! Now we'll see what the kids can really do from here on in. Only 6 points out of a playoff spot, no #1, no impact player...ouch!

This team is close...but it's not close enough. I wanted Hossa as much as anyone but clearly, Gainey felt the price was too high.

I don't know how many times it has to be said that next year has always been the year where we were supposed to be reaching for greater heights and based on the progression of certain players and the re-emergence of others, I'm still pleased with where we stand.

It's a gradual process to build a strong, healthy franchise in the new NHL and Gainey and his staff are doing it perfectly, IMO.

The sky has not fallen. The sun is rising.

Go Habs Go.
This isn't even really about Hossa anymore, although I'm sure most are still pretty pissed we couldn't land him.

It's about Bob making our team weaker going into the playoffs by trading away our #1 goalie and adding absolutely nothing in return! I can't wait to hear what he's going to say to justify his move.

Maybe I'm missing something, but since we didn't move anyone besides Huet today, do we even have room for Grabs?

So if this was last saturday

Let's pretend that the Habs would retire Bob's number tonight instead of last saturday... would you

a) applaud for the great years as a player
b) Politely applaud for the great man
c) Stand still and just listen politely
d) Boo like there's no tomorrow

I wonder what people will say if next year when we're in the exact situation. that winning the cup on the 100 anniversary is too obvious, they're just plotting to win it in the 101st year?

Gainey deserves credit for hiring Trevor Timmins. Thats it.

Apart from Kovalev, his trading record is brutal. Huet was a throw-in, even he admitted it. And now we lose Ryder for nothing as well.

Who sits around waiting to be outbidded? We just sat there waiting for a team to offer more then us, its ridiculous not to set a deadline for Atlanta to accept the trade, or we move on and improve our team with another player. At the NHL level, we shouldn't be putting all our eggs in one basket.

On a positive note...

We just brought up 2 guys that were dominant in the A. Last time we did that (Sergei Kostitsyn) the team turned around and gelled together. Right now, Huet wasn't able to hold the fort. Let's just pray Grabs is ready... That's a real possibility. And with the way Huet was playing, a Halak-Price duo won't probably do worst than the former duo was doing.

I don't think we're worst, we're just not better... And we weren't that bad to start with.

Believe my friends!

This team is building for NEXT YEAR. Huet was never part of the future plans and this team isn't close enough to lose some youth in favor of a supposed kick at the can.

Gainey and company aren't trying to build a team that's gonna win the 2008 Stanley Cup, they're building a team that will win from 2009 onward.

Gainey did say he will not make a sideways move....but he never said anything about going backwards....

We could of just done nothing....seriousely Huet is a good goalie I cant believe this **** really...Cant wait for Gaineys press confrenence where he will talk about how he wants to go with the youth

RDS reported that habs players were acting like Hossa was already a teammate. Huet was a fantastic team player and I think was loved by everyone.

How can you find a positive thing in that???

The official Don Waddel is an idiot thread!!

Forrest Gump couldnt have done worst..

Esposito.. a bust

Armstrong.. third line material

Christensen.. shotout specialist, undersized marginal NHLer..

a late first pick..

Im convinced there were alot better offers on the table..
