Tyutin Girardi
Backman Sanguinetti/Baranka/Sauer

Strudwick (im just going to assume he'll be with this club till the day he dies)

Lundqvist
Montoya/Vally/Wiikman

You look at that lineup, and really, i dont have a problem going to war with that lineup.

Not one bit. Also keep in mind, none of those 3 lines are #1 lines. I think were rolling 3 #2 lines, and a 4th line. Thats a-ok with me.
If this were the lineup - then this is the situation I believe:

Player Name Cap 2008/2009 Status
Cherepanov 1300 new entry contract
Dawes 900 new contract RFA
Avery 3100 new contract UFA
UFA FW(Jagr?) 5000 no contract UFA
Sjostrom 775 signed
Anisimov 850 signed
Hollweg (Gratton) 513 (550) signed
Drury 7050 signed
Gomez 7357 signed
Prucha 1600 signed
Dubinsky 633 signed
Callahan 575 signed
Betts 615 signed
Orr 538 signed

Staal 827 signed
Tyutin 2844 signed
Girardi 1550 signed
Backman 2300 signed
Rozsival/UFA (1) 5000 no contract - UFA
Sanguinetti/Baranka/Sauer 800 signed
Strudwick/other 500 no contract UFA

Lundquist 6875 signed
Vally/UFA 800 no contract UFA

Salary overdraft 2007/2008?? 1.375

Total 53560 updated - thanx

Salary Cap 2oo8 ?? 55000
  • Less tight than 2 days ago...(as I predicted a 2nd UFA defender costing 3,5 M)
  • Still need a new?? top UFA defender
  • Decision on Rozie (definitely effected by above)
  • Decision on Avery (3.000.000 ???)
  • Decision on Jagr (Offer 5.000.000 for 1 year deal + bonuses) - or that he goes on a mad point streak the final 18 games to attain contract extension goal. Nothing I would not like to see tho. Otherwise a UFA in the 5 million range.
  • Straka + Shanny = gone ??? Probably...
  • Sign Cherry
  • Sign Dawes
  • Sign new backup keeper (I like Vally so far, but... ahem....)
  • Assume that 2 young forwards (Cherry + Anisimov in the above prediction - but could also be Korpedo, Byers, Bourret, Moore, Specimen or someone else) + one defender (of Sangs + Sauer + Baranka + Potter + Hutch) make it out of camp.
Man is our talent pool deep...

Don't think that watching about 50 or so games played by Backman makes me any more knowledgable about his play than others......but when he is healthy I saw a very serviceable d-man, who is sliick with the puck, skates well, has a good shot and eats up over 20 minutes of ice without breaking a sweat ( in a good way).

I have him as the Rangers # 5 d-man right now. I think you guys will be pleasently suprised.

Sjodstrom I've watched maybe 30-40 times (at least) and believe that he is a def upgrade on the wing over Hossa or Prucha. Good speed and size. He can also play either wing.

In Hindsight Monty was a Ranger for a year too long. Best of luck to him and I believe he will be in the NHL next year. In what capacity?

Depth moves. No more. No less.

we are not a worse team after the deadline.. we have added some depth where we need it and moved players that needed to be moved eventualy anyways.

Glad we didnt waster time and talent on a 2 month rental.

Well said. The most important thing about the deadline was that we didn't sacrifice the future or mess with the current chemistry for a quick fix. With the way the East is and the way we are playing lately, this team can go far in the playoffs as long as they are focused.

Are we a better team? Tough to say. Backman is an upgrade over Strudwick. I don't know if Sjostrom fits into the lineup, but one thing is for sure: we didn't make ourselves any worse.

I guess Malik isn't the cancer in the room that was often wondered about here and elsewhere, else he would have certainly been moved.

Looking forward to watching him the rest of the way and also looking forward to the usual anti-Malik frothing. Even though I disagree, it's always colorful.

While it might be a wonderful story, saying that it is realistic to expect Cherry and Anisimov to be on the #1 line is ridiculous. Could it happen? Yes? Realistic? No.

I couldn't find the original post so I replied this way.

don't take this as serious but wouldn't it have been funny if we got cloutier back from the kings yesterday? who wouldn't love cloutier as a backup and take on DP in a brawl?

Agree that's it's unrealistic, but who saw Dubinsky as our top line center? Still doubt it though.
