Yes. And Halak will be great too.

I still hate the return on Huet though.

A lot more than Huet God bless him.

Did Gainey get ripped by everyone here when he selected Price at the draft?

I do... but I wouldn't have traded Huet, I think.

I do have confidence in both Price and Halak though, I think they're both future #1s, but... I guess I just wouldn't have wanted to go in the playoffs with 2 rookies.

I would have played Price #1 and Huet #2 in case of injury or anything

Tough question. What are we expecting him to do exactly? Be a legit number one? If that's the case, then yes.

Sure do.

I'm nervous 'cause he's young and there's tons of Habs fans waiting for the first sign of blood.

But I'm not nervous like I was with Huet. I had the belief any point shot could go in, any shot could trickle in and his five-hole would get exposed every chance it could be.

Do I have faith that he'll pull a Roy / Dryden? No. But I do believe, with him, we can progress through the first round of the playoffs. Next season, who knows?

Regardless, I do believe he can carry whatever load was left by Huet's departure.

I have no doubt in his abilities, but the ability to keep your emotions and concentration in check while "up-ing" your level of play during the playoffs (NHL, I mean) comes with experience. If it didn't, you wouldn't see Guerin/Tkachuk type players getting big returns at deadlines. This year's market seemed unusual to me, and resulted in a sink/swim scenario for our young prodigy. I don't know if that's ideal, but he's been there before at lower levels, so perhaps he can do it again.

He's proved he can carry a team at every level. I know this is the NHL, but the jump from Juniors to AHL is pretty big too and he handled it perfectly. That 1-0 win over Philly and even tonight showed us how brilliant he can be. Hopefully he stays consistent.

I have the feeling that once we get in the playoff... he will be a different goalie...

In the past, when it counted, he showed up

I'm sure he'll be fine, and the team as well.

I'm really curious to see how Huet handles Washington - defense isn't anywhere as good, and he's got an uphill climb to pull that team into a playoff spot. Should be interesting.

I voted no, and wanted to hit stop to change it to yes.

I just assumed "yes" would be the first option, and didn't read it til it was too late.

halak had alot to do with gainey trading huet,
gainey dumped huet to give halak nhl ice time as well as get price consistent heading into the playoffs.
i like gainey he didnt mess with team chimistry(which is the reason we're playing well) and he did'nt give away prospects and players.

go price go
Go habs go.

Price seems to raise his play when it matters, perhaps knowing he is the #1 and the club will ride or die with him will help elevate his game. Its hard to say, I have faith in him.. I am just not blinded by faith.

I do believe Halak could sweep in and steal the spot from him at any given time if he drops the ball however.

well what if theres no other choice? i mean you got to understand gainey was looking to dump huet safely, the 2nd rounder was a bonus.
tampa wanted smith, your not going to trade him to ottawa and the west had no one intrested.
the return is expected.

Definitely. He seems pretty confident when hes in the net, and now that they have pretty much named him number 1 he should take that as a motivation booster. Hopefully anyways, he had a good game tonight and maybe the team can play better in front of him too now that the pressure is off with all the rumors coming to an end and they can go on a little streak. That would be great for him taking on this role.

Price is special.

We had to choose a #1 before heading to the playoff, say we kept both goalie we would have got into the playoffs with 2 good goalies sure, but none of them would have his "A" game.

Good goalies need to play a lot to get into the good mind states, bob and carbo knows that. I personally didn't feel confident with Huet as our playoff starter, like many have said his style doesn't fit well with the physical playoffs hockey. Point shot, deflection, nerves-racking overtime, consistency; many elements where I think Price has an edge. Because of his size, but his poise too.

We can look at the other teams and whine, but the truth is they all have a huge weakness. Their goalies.

Do you think Ottawa will go deep with Emery/Gerber?

In Pittsburgh its not much better with Conklin/Fleury..

Detroit has the same problems with Osgood..

I'd take Price over any of these goalie in a heartbeat, and yet we think we have no chance against all the "great" teams. Great goalies show up in the playoffs, and Carey always did.

And god know how much a goalie is important in the playoffs!

so yes, I have faith in Price
