I think he'll be atleast a 30goal/30assist guy, and he could still be a 30/30 guy this year if he goes on a tear like he did whenever it was (last year?)
Good post...I think people tend to forget about progression with young players, Higgins is what? 25-25???

He's still improving as a player and his production is following at a steady pace...with a good finish Higgins can finish with 25G 25A. Pretty good numbers if you ask me. That shows me that when Higgins reaches his potential, he'll probably be a consistent 60-70pts guy and that's solid.

He is going to need his center to keep playing like he has lately.

The points don't tell the whole story. The guy is a beast on the boards.

If he had just a bit of luck, he would've been closing in on 30. Higgins still has a lot to show to people.

I think Higgins still has another gear...he's on pace for a 55-58 point year, I think he has another 12-18 points in him to be a 65-70 point guy(over 82 games) that plays gritty and kills penalities etc

I think Higgins' main problem is he is too hard on himself, if he misses a good chance he needs to not think about it and put the next chance in, like a golfer that lets one double bogey lead to 2 others...that's why he is so streaky. Once he realises that, I think he'll be a lock for 30-35 each year along with a strong presence in the room.

Well, perhaps a couple more two goal games with some single goal games can do the trick. Not much for a guy who can score in bunches like he can and rack them up really fast.

His problem has always been confidence. I hope that game helps in that aspect and he can start potting some. Koivu has been playing great lately too.

Hopefully he understands that Bob was confident in him enough to refuse to package him for Hossa. I hope he really turns it on. If we can get 2 lines going for the playoffs we are legit contenders...

I think the rumours about himself were the real issue.

I think if you look at Higgins progression, you can see the ups and downs you get with a young player. The problem here is that we judge every game as a career altering sign, not you J., I just happened to quote your post.

Higgins gets drafted, and is expected to be a solid NHL player, but there are questions about offensive upside. He gets valuable AHL exp., probably an extra year due to the lockout. He plays a solid 2 way game, and shows enough speed to have a bit of gamebreaking ability.

He makes the team, impresses as he improves. He shows himself to be a well grounded character guy, gets on a scoring streak late, as he and Koivu developed some chemistry in the last 20 games .

He goes into his sophomore season and starts so well that we start thinking he's among the best lw'ers in the game, due to .........

He gets hurt and plays poorly when he comes back. He and Koivu are broken up, and he goes on a late streak to slavge his season to a point, but they miss the playoffs.

Year 3, he is given leadership responsibility and he is obviously a guy who takes this seriously and treis to be one of the voices of the team. Then his play suffers, he seems to have trouble finding open ice, the fans who thought he was wonderful, see him as trade bait as the Kostitsyn brothers are the new flavour of the month.

He plays like there's a weight on his shoulders, and maybe now, it seems the weight is coming off. He has to learn to be a leader like he has to learn to be a top flight winger. I don't think he has the creativity to be an 80-90 point guy, but I think he has everything else to be a solid 2 way player that you find on winning teams.

He's fine, he has to improve and adjust like anyone else. I'd sign him long term without a 2nd thought.

Higgins is great and hopefully he is back! I'm confident Higgins and Koivu will play in the playoffs the way they were playing last night.

+1

I have always thought of Higgins as a very good 2-way player that will get time on a 2nd scoring unit, PP, and effectively kill Penalties. I believe Higgins can be a 25g-25a-50p or perhaps 30g-30a-60p type player. You need that on your team.

Not only is he back few other players seem to be back as well.
Forget the trade deadline if Higgins koivu and Ryder play well it's like we picked them up for free.

As the team develops, Higgins can be used in a shutdown role, giving the team options. You may not want Koivu playing aginst the Malkin's of the league anymore, but Higgins could be a very good winger alongside a Chipchura or someone of that style.

I agree with you there as well. I think Pacioretty is said to have more offensive upside then Higgins and may eventually take his spot, giving Higgins more of a shutdown role like you said.. Time will tell!
