I wouldn't trade one Ian Cole for 10 Nick Petreckis. Cole looked awesome in training camp and many people think he earned the 5th D-spot ahead of Pietrangelo. 6'1", 215 pounds, strong as an ox with good offensive instincts. He's looking like a left-handed Roman Polak, with better offense. He'll be in St. Louis just as soon as Brewer, Jackman or Colaiacovo give way.
Petrecki sounds like the american version of Christoph Schubert. All the tools to be a top defenseman... does not seem to put it together.
yeah, thats what i've heard too. i'm surprised so many of the first posters were still so high on him. after he made the jump, i lost hope that he was going to be a top-2 d-man. top-4, please. *fingers crossed*
Most on here know about Petrecki, I know more about Cole. He has a good first pass, good skating ability and a decent shot. He has a very active stick. Cole is a freak in the gym, one of the strongest players at camp, absolutely ripped and jacked out of his mind. Problem is his style of play puts in positions to take as many vulnerable hits that he gives. Has histry of concussions and has already taken 3 monster hits since camp but bounced back fine. He needs to learn to put his body in better position when going into his corner for the puck. He has potential to be a top 4 dman for the Blues in two years and be the Jackman replacement. Hope this helps some out on Cole knowledge.
Petrecki is an absolute animal. I think his parents used to lock him in a cage.
Just a mean SOB, though I doubt he ever breaks 30 pts at the NHL level.
EDIT - If he even consistently sticks.
According to a few posters on the Sharks board, Petrecki is actually playing alot better this year and all SJ fans hope he continues to progress. He is big, nasty and a mean SOB but I like that he knows what he needs to improve on to become a full time NHLer.
