Will there be a Playoffs??

With the CBA expiring in September and the players all but losing any sort of leverage from that point on, do you think that they have the stupidity to strike before the season is out??

Well, if we go by Bryan McCabe then yes they are stupid enough to do that, but he doesn't speak for the whole NHLPA and that's my question.

Do the players use the remaining bit of leverage they have by denying the owners any PO revenue prior to getting locked out and not receiving any compensation starting in late September and early October??

I saw some comments a while ago (can't recall where) on this very subject. The Players Union is under contract so they would be in breach of that contract if they went on strike, so they do not see it as something they would do.

That would not be a smart move. The players want to keep the present system, not change it. Unions strike when they don't have what they want, not the other way around.

They'd also be denying themselves the revenues from the World Cup scheduled to run from August 30 to Sept 14th. The NHLPA is due to collect 50% of the net revenue. The World Cup is provided for in the CBA so there's no way they can break the CBA, still play, and collect the money. There'd be a helluva a lot of lawsuits against the NHLPA by the organizers and media.

The only way that happens is if the Rangers find a way to go 25-5-0-0 the rest of the way and finish as the 6th seed.

The CBA does contain a no strike/no lockout clause. The NHLPA could be held liable for lost playoff revenues. That would be the end of the NHLPA, which wouldn't be such a bad thing. They'd have no choice but to file for bankruptcy.
