Hockey News Future Watch 2008

Just got the issue and the habs have 3 prospects in the top 50 and 4 in the top 70.

Ranked 1st : Carey Price
Ranked 31st: Ryan Mcdo
Ranked 37th: Max Pac
Ranked 69th: PK SUBBAN

Overall rank in NHL I believe was 7th. We get a total grade of A-.
Just going on mememory from yesterday on what I read as I am at the office

Or Emelin, Valentenko or SKost, any of whom are at least arguably as good as some on the list.

Still, I'm not complaining. After all, even without those 3 habs are top ten and have the (gulp) #1 rated prospect in hockey. How long has it been since that happened?

Too much NHL experience? He's got 18 games already.

He's in the NHL, so he's not considered in their list. They used Price because he was in the AHL when they printed FW.

Also, THN ****ed up. (skimming through the issue at zinio.com) they used Yann Danis twice in pictures instead of Price..

They have Price ranked #1 so probably not.

Okay, fair enough I guess. In general I'd think of a guy who drafted in the 7th round and played junior last year as still a prospect, but I have to concede he looks like a guy who's in the NHL to stay.

you know, the hockey community always sells our players short.

Everytime i read the hockeynews(as i subscribe) and get to the depth chart of all the teams i laugh. Cause most teams have 3-6 players listed in the "next in line" catagory. Montreal usually has only 2 or 3 guys listed there as to say that we have few players next in line. Hell Toronto always has that catagory filled with 4-6 players listed.LOL

Halak is in the top 3 goalies from the AHL this season and last. There is nothing left in the AHL for him. If that isn't enough for this list than it is biased.

Halak has proven himself to be at the top of every level of hockey thats all. He will be more than capable to back up Price.

quick note

I don't recall the top 5 teams...I know Columbus was there, Pitts was number one I believe....I think they consider Chipper and S. Kost as graduates..which was very bizarre as Price was ranked. I am assuming chip and s. kost were with the big team at the time it was being made and Price was in the minors.

In terms of Team top 10. After those 4..i believe they had 5) Fisher 6) Yemelin 7) Maxweel, 8) White 9) ? forget 10) was Grabovski.

Bottom two teams were NJ and TO I believe.

Nice to see MaxPac and Macdonagh ahead of players like Zach Hamill (49th), Shattenkirk (40th), Logan Couture, Espositio (haha), Ellerby, Alex Plante.

Although Brule (still ranked 14th) and Bourdon (still ranked 20th) makes me wonder.

Not too much made about MaxPac, but I think he's going to really surprise us offensively. He's have an excellent season at Michigan (12 g 18 a in 29 gp). Good to see him getting recognition.

You can preview it here. If you page over (about 10 pages), you'll see the top 50.

He has 2 PTS in 28 GP... I think everyone is ahead of him now. He's terrible this season. It's like going from Andrei Markov last year to Mathieu Dandenault this year.

And why do you wonder about Bourdon? The guy is playing very well in limited mintues. 17 GP in Vancouver.. 2 PTS... +8!!! He's going to be a good player still.

It's amazing that they haven't put Sergei Kostitsyn on the list after what he's shown in the NHL at age 20.

Just out of curiosity, is Angelo Esposito listed in the Top 75?

They have pictures of Yann Danis instead of Carey Price, not once but twice. A little disappointing, since he's on the cover.

The Hockey News has really gone downhill. Ken Campbell was on Off The Record last night and he's painful to listen to.

Way to put more pressure on Price!

There goes Huet's confidence!
