Yeah, there's not a chance the Oilers are taking Robert Mayer in the first round. I can personally guarantee that.

Eberle is 5'9, I believe. Just at typo there.

Very poor mock draft.

Montreal: will most likely take a Center, its their biggest need. You have a Koivu not doing much, an emerging star in Plekanec. But a big Center is probably what their looking for. Lapierre is not gonna take a top 6 foward ever in his career and we need size as well. This draft has TONS of centers in the first round and defenders.

Nashville: are you kidding me, 2 defensemen? I agree with the previous comment on this board that their is no way NSH will take 2 prospects at D. Maybe if an exceptionnal talent like Doughty is still avalaible, but with the #15 pick? never...

Phoenix: look for the coyotes to grap a D-man here. I'm thinking Teubert.

Watch Atlanta surprise everyone and pick Colin Wilson early, they need an premiere American to bring people to the rink. Just a hunch!

I know, the 2nd one says Mayer. I don't see the Oilers grabbing either.

There's really no such thing as a poor mock draft. If this is the guy's honest perception of the best player available, then how can we criticize him?

Personally, I think Bogosian will go in the top six, but people are rising and falling all the time in the estimation of scouts so who can say?

Montreal has never drafted for need, have they? I mean taking Carey Price at #5 when they had Hart-winner Jose Theodore, for example?

And I don't think its far fetched that Nashville takes 2 D-men. They've shown a propensity to prioritize and value D-men early in the draft. Take for example 2005 when they took Parent, Laakso, Fransson with thier first 3 picks. Or 2003, when they took D-men Suter, Klein, Weber, Stehlik, and Sultzer all in the first three rounds. Just saying, its not that far fetched.

And just a hunch here too, but I'd say that Atlanta is NOT taking Colin Wilson. If they do, its definitely not because they need "an premier American to bring people to the rink".... its Ilya Kovulchuk, not Jim Slater that bring Atlanta fans to the rinks these days....

Ladies and Gents, they have no rhyme or reason to their picks... they update them every few days... check back in a week or so and you'll see they've changed again... sometimes only the teams picking those players have changed, based on the standings at the time, while the players stay in the same exact spots.

Of course there can be poor mock drafts! If the person doing the draft ignores all logic, team draft tendancies, transfer agreements (or lack thereof), and players' stock rising and falling it's not going to result in a quality product.

Im not sure if this draft has changed but they used to just throw out 30 prospects whos order would never change, but the teams pick in that spot would change every week as the team records were updated. EX: Colby Robak Of Brandon,MB is being picked 15th by Nashville. A week from now, Columbus could be at 15 and will pick Robak. The following week Phoenix could be in the 15th spot, picking Robak again.

Why is it so far fetched to rank Pietrangelo as the best defenseman in the draft? IMO he is.

I don't think Gratchev will be taken in the first round due to the russian transfer agreement, however, If he is available in the 2nd round I would love for Canucks to take a chance on him.

Why would a team with ZERO forward depth take ANOTHER defenseman in the first round? When Jeff Halpern is your second line center...you have depth problems.

Nope. more like 5'11" .

a 5'1" player wouldn't be a top prospect.

1. Logic. How do you define hockey logic? To me, the only logic in the draft is Best Player Available, and that is subjective and can't be measured.

2. Draft tendencies. Again, I refer you to the BPA theory, which is the only way to draft.

3. Transfer Agreements. Well, I kinda agree with you here. Russian players (and possibly Swedish players as well) may drop a little. However, how do you know that a mock draft hasn't taken that into account?

4. Players' Stock. I'm not sure that's relevant, because if you think a player is the best available it wouldn't bother you if he declined in the collective mindset.

I'm not trying to defend the mock draft that everyone is ripping. What I'm saying is that all mock drafts are pretty much of equal value. Therefore, how can one be any worse than another?

Ennis probably projects as a winger at the NHL level.
