How many draft selections do you have?

I was talking to a buddy of mine who says the team has something like 11 picks in the first 3 or 4 rounds.

Can anyone confirm which picks you guys have for each round?

Thanks

Does anyone else see the irony of this question given the poster's screen name?

Touche.

No, but seriously. I come in peace. I'm no Kings fan. I like an Eastern conference team so it's difficult to keep up to date with the Kings much.

Having said that, I really do like the young talent on your team. If you do land Stamkos or Doughty (which at this point is a given) and get a good goalie you could be a very dangerous team.

Are you going to keep us in suspense or tell us your team?

...and the answer to your question is a "buttload". There is a complex mathematical formula with which I will not bore you that adds up to that figure.

That site shows the Kings losing their fifth rounder in the Heward deal. That pick was conditional on if Heward re-signs. He didn't so the Kings still have their 5th rounder.

Which is shown correctly there. They may have changed it since you posted. I'm not sure. But it does show correctly now. Other than that, nice job tracking all the upcoming draft picks.

Don't get your hopes up just yet. Remember '03?

I'd venture mustering some hope up, personally, since he did say that the team wouldn't necessarily use all the draft picks to just draft players -- that some might be packaged to move up and some could even be packaged to acquire established players.

ya know, if weren't for Kevin Lowe, ANA would have only 2 picks this year.

Yes, but they'd still have Dustin Penner as well.

Just think this doesn't even bring comp picks in question...if any...

We have 13 total picks and perhaps 10 in the top 100...give or take a draft day deal...

To the best of my knowledge, unless we plan on losing O'Sullivan or another RFA through an offer sheet there are no compensation draft picks for losing free agents -- if that was what your were suggesting.

TL quote @ state of franchise meeting in '03:

"Judge us by what we do in the offseason. We have 3 first picks and we'll make significant moves to improve the team."

Stumpel/Cechmanic were their significant moves.

I understand DL is running the show now, but don't get too excited just yet.

I understand that you're trying to keep the expectations down, but I'm not all in favor of using a quote from a past general managing regime as anything to nay say Lombardi. I'm going to use what Lombardi actually said to hold against what he actually does and if I'm dissapointed then I'm dissapointed.

Lombardi quote from Kings Talk:

Quote:
*snip*

I think early in my career when I would move at the draft, moving up to take a Scott Hannan or a Marco Sturm, there weren't a lot of teams that moved. The history of the draft was teams would sit there and wait for players to fall for them and if they were there, they were there, and if not, not. We started moving a lot to get the players that we wanted, but now this is kind of standard fare at the draft. Every team will move and it makes it harder to move so you gotta have more ammo if you want to move and that's one of the things we're looking at to have. Extra picks aren't so much to use them all. Maybe you will, but at least you can position yourself so that if maybe you want to get a guy -- maybe in the late 1st round or wherever it may be -- you can at least go after him and you've got the cards to play.

The third thing, and this is the other reason why the deal with Dallas was where we went. Getting the picks in 2008 is not only, again, for getting players, but I think, as cap space keeps filling up that we haven't seen the impact of the cap yet. And where our franchise is at right now I think our window will start to open once we get into that 08 (2008-2009) and we'll be in position to trade those picks and doing a deal like Demitra where we're going to use our 1st round pick to add a piece to our puzzle, now that our puzzle is starting to come together. So that's another way of maybe adding and filling a hole, and again, now we're going to have the resources to do it. Nobody is more loaded up to make that type of deal like that than us, but unfortunately we have to go through the pain of trading good character players (Norstrom) now to hopefully get a payoff down the road.
