GDT: Blues @ Flames, 7:30 MDT (Sportsnet West/Fan 960)

St. Louis Blues: 29-29-10, 5th in Central, 14th in Westen Conference

@

Calgary Flames: 35-23-10, 2nd in Northwest , 6th in Western Conference

The Flames have the series season lead at 2-1, with the Flames winning the most recent game between these clubs; 5-3 on December 16th.

Pre-Game report:
http://flames.nhl.com/team/app?gameN...8&service=page

According to Rob Kerr's blog, (http://blog.rogersradiointernet.com/..._utmk=48628775) the forward lines for the flames will look something like this:

Huselius Langkow Iginla
Tanguay Conroy Nolan
Yelle Lombardi Moss
Primeau Boyd Goddard

There was no indication for the defensive pairings. No official word on the starter for Calgary, but with great certainty it will be Kipprusoff for the Flames, as he has a 1.86 GAA in his last 8 games against St. Louis.

The Flames lost their last game, but have points in their last 3 games. The Blues have lost 2 in a row.

Injuries: Mike Johnson is out for the Blues.

For the third game, Jarome Iginla will look to break the all-time goal scoring record for the Flames franchise. He is currently tied for first with Theoren Fleury with 364. Iginla has scored 2 goals against St. Louis this season, both came in their most recent game. Says Iginla about the record (taken from the game preview)

Quote:
"To be honest, I'm not that anxious," Iginla said. "It's not the most important thing. It's about getting wins and moving up (in the standings).

It'll be cool when it happens."
With Vancouver playing against LA tonight, we need to pick up 2 points. Here's to a strong opening, and playing hard for 60 minutes. Now is not the time to underestimate the Blues.

GO FLAMES GO!!!

Huge must-win game tonight, especially with Vancouver also playing. Here's hoping they come out with a better start than the previous game, as well as a 60 minute effort.

Biggest game of the season so far, this is when crunch time begins since every team is so tight in the west. It'd be awesome to have a 1 point lead over Minnesota with 2? games in hand.

As per Rob Kerr's Blog:

Quote:
Every once and while you see something and you have to try and figure out if it is of any importance, this morning a full half hour before the team is scheduled to skate the Captain Jarome Iginla is out there skating by himself. Iginla traditionally isn’t a guy who comes out really early. So Jarome skated for about 15 minutes and then when back into the dressing room.

It is a funny time of the year, everybody you talk to around the league, for the exception of a couple of people, all seem real nervous right now. On Saturday Pete and I talked to a couple of color guys from Vancouver and Minnesota, and both sounded like they would be surprised if their team made it. The ups and downs that this team is going through is the story for most teams at this moment.

The Blues are a team like the Flames right now who are having a real problem scoring goals right now, and they are 3 games into a 9 game road swing which seems they play in Vancouver and Anaheim all the way back to Montreal. They are on the outside looking in to start this trip but with a road record of 10-16-5 I think they could be in real trouble by the end of the week.

Lines (based on yesterdays skate and today)
Huselius Langkow Iginla
Tanguay Conroy Nolan
Yelle Lombardi Moss
Primeau Boyd Godard
D-pairings not sure about since the skate was optional and neither Phaneuf or Aucoin participated.

Weird that Iginla skated before the team but didn’t participate in the optional skate.

That's pretty funny, cause two great friends of mine (unfortunately they are Preds' and Nucks' fans, but everyone has a mind of his own ) and I have been telling each other for the past three weeks, how each other's team would be the favourite to make the PO's and what the own teams' shortcomings are.

The Blues are struggling so the Flames need to get their killer instinct sharpened. I predict Huselius breaks his slump versus the Blues.

Go Flames Go.

Good to hear Moss is back. Maybe a presence in front of the net can help our guys score some playoff type goals.

Any chance Aucoin could be the healthy D scratch? It's not like the PP has been clicking, so there wouldn't be a huge opportunity cost of giving him a chance to watch the ice from above. Anything to keep him from making ******** decisions like in OT against Nashville.

Damn this final stretch is so close, and the team that makes it to the playoffs from the northwest will deserve it. I hope the Flames pick up their game and push really hard now. But then again Ive been saying that all season.

Where is the heart of this team?? Please someone find it and return it to the Flames dressing room. Maybe thats what Iggy was looking for on the ice before practice...

Huge game tonight and a win would really help our chances. Got some help last night and now must take care of business. These games in hand only count if we win them. Here's hoping for a solid effort and a victory.

As an old Atl Flames fan, go Calgary Flames tonight!

(I'm not just a lottery fan for this year, I rooted for the Flames and the Oil in the two recent SC Finals)

Agreed. Can't blame Kipper. It's completely the fault of the PK leaving Bacchus(sp?) open like that on the crease.

Also, I realize Juice needs to score, but Dayum not on Kipper!!

I think they're giving the second goal to Huselius

If they do, it would be his first in 23 games

Flames satisfied your wish.

And the second goal has just been given to Huselius, so that he has broken his 20-games-scoring slump.
