MTL vs NYR @ Yankee Stadium???

I know this might be a little premature, but considering that the Habs and Rangers want to play outside next year, add to that the closing of Yankee Stadium. I think we may see something like this happening next year.

Thoughts?

oh, almost forgot...

Doubt it'll be the Habs again since they played one against the Oilers already.. I could see NYI/NYR though..

Don't see it happen, for the reason that MTL played in Edmondton few years ago and might do one in MTL anyhow soon.

I think NJ, NYI or Philly will play this game.

They said it probably wouldn't be the Isles or Devils.

I guess maybe the Capitals or the Blackhawks

I think they are going to stick with the American teams to try and grow the game. Which I'm fine with anyway, the ice conditions are horrible.

It will be against another Yankee team.

No way the Habs get to play in this one.

the goal of the event is to attract a large TV audience. Having two NY area teams would turn it into a metro NY event. They aren't worried about selling out, which will happen regardless of the teams so they'll probably look further away for another team.

I think the Blackhawks are about 2-3 years away from being involved in an outdoor game. Bettman would probably want to wait until their a competitive team (i.e. when Toews and Kane develop) and has said that an outdoor game at Wrigley is a possibility.

I would guess the league wants to expose Ovechkin like they did Crosby this year. Having the star power is crucial, so i could see Washington. The other possibility in my mind would be Detroit, as it would be nice to get a Western Conference team in there, though i think a Minnesota/Detroit game would be amazing and should happen in 2 years.

Since it seems like the NHL wants to make it a yearly thing, its fun to imagine the schedule for the next couple of years:

Rangers/Caps at Yankee Stadium
Red Wings/Wild at (Either or)
Blackhawks/Leafs at Wrigley
Bruins/Habs at Foxboro
Kings/Sharks/Ducks/Coyotes in Vegas (they need another Vegas game)

...Panthers/Thrashers at Del Boca Vista

Pretty sure the next outdoor game will involve western teams. I'd put my money Detroit or Chicago.

NYI vs NYR would be nuts.. but it would only cater to one market i guess. Albeit a huge one..

The Rangers said that they really want to play and Original 6 franchise, read that on ESPN moments ago, the league also states that they're looking at Wrigley field aswell as a possible venue...

God i'd love the Habs to Play NY in Yankee stadium... i'd wear my Red sox hat, a Koivu Vintage classic jersey and get in twice as many fights!!! hahaha

here is the link to the ESPN article... Enjoy..

Caps Vs Wings would be a good one.
If I were to go with a Rags game, I'd like to see them play against the Hawks.

On a scale of 1-10, 1 of course being the lowest, select how awesome the ideas of playing hockey at Wrigley and Yankee Stadiums are.

I say 50.

You want a sellout, then it is NYR vs. NYI for the Yankee Stadium game. There is an excellent rivalry between these two teams.

A couple of years later, Chicago vs. Detroit at Wrigley Field.

Again, schedule it for Super Bowl Sunday in the early afternoon, around 12 or 1pm.

Great for the sports bars and bowl game gatherings on the same day.

I agree with this. they should give it to an american team but preferably a small market team which needs the extra exposure/revenue.

Sorry but, how could a Arizonian, Tennessean, South Carolinian or Floridian stadium could honour such a game?

huh honouring? I thought it was about advertising, marketing, ratings and money more than anything. I don't see what honour has to with it at all actually.

you don't actually think they are thinking of putting on this event every year out of honour do you?

I think he meant one of these teams to play AT Yankee Stadium.

Of course Phoenix, Florida, Tampa, LA and so on cannot play an outdoor game

I meant honour as "being able to fulfill their mandate". How could a southern state, or how could you do an outdoor game while it does minimum +10 celsius degrees permanently?

yup that's what i meant since it's being played at Yankee stadium. apparently they split the profit for the game between the 2 teams as well. good exposure for teams that don't get much as well.
