Gorges ; Appreciation Thread

Am I the only fan of his on HFboards? I think that SJ got scammed badly by offering a 1st round pick and Gorges for Rivet. I hope that he'll score his first goal in the habs uniform sooner than we think.

He is good. That's why he is not benched anymore. The 26 is a lock for the playoff lineup and the next few years.

I'm pretty sure lots of people around here love him and consider him our #4 d, hell of a trade by Gainey.

most improved player on the team without a doubt. He's showing confidence out there. Good for him.

I don't think that he can be considered has our #4 because of Streit's offensive skills on the PP. In my mind he's an excellent 5th defenseman.

i love the way he plays. hes fast, has a good first pass and isnt scared of going into the boards/corners and taking the hit to make the play. you get the feeling hes not at his best yet, that hes improving day by day. hes a keeper.

Streit does not play defense though he plays the point on the PP.

It happened to be a great trade for both teams I think.

We got a very reliable Top6 d-man with a first round pick that we used to draft MaxPac who is one of our top prospects at the moment.

Rivet has established himself as a powerplay quarterback in SJ, as well as a great leader for the young d-men.

Big time.I remember when he played like 1 game out of 5 and we expected him to never ever make a mistake.I thouth for sure after that brutal mistake early this year against the Trashers at home he would be done, instead glad he turned it around and glad Carbo let him play. He's a keeper and a great #5-6 guy

Oops, forgot about O'Byrne replacing Streit. But I think that Gorges is better than O'Byrne.

Gorges is not flashy, reminds me of a younger Hamrlik.Just makes the simple play and never gambles on the blue line when he's got the puck.Sometimes I scream cause he just keeps trowing back in the corner when he had a clean shot on net

I like Gorges a lot, although I don't think he's ever going to be a dominant player. I find that with the addition of Hamrlik and O'Byrne, Gorges becomes a good fit. He's smart and mobile and moves the puck fairly well, and we can much better afford to be dressing and playing a smaller defenceman now that we have a healthy dose of size and hitting in the mix.

To me is more like a lesser but more physical Markov to be. Lets not forget, he was one of the top D in the WHL and captain of WJC also. He is also playing on the right side which is not his natural position, moves the puck very well, hes suprisingly physical for his size and very smart. I use to thin he was just a depth guy but hes more than that.

He's adequate, but Rivet is still a much better dman.

With that logic Sergei Kostitsyn's our #5 Dman since he also plays the point on the powerplay.

Rivet is slow mo without great size with an adequate shot. His skating, size and ability to contribute to a transition game is below average.

His stats and contributions in SJ, prove otherwise. He fits in wonderfully well on a very fast, talented, technical team and was only being hampered in Montreal by a defensively challenged team.

There is no way in the world SJ would give Rivet back for Gorges.

That's ok because we don't want Rivet back... even if it were for free.
