Hypothetical: Offer's for Ryan Miller

Now, I think (and hope) Buffalo will try to sign Ryan Miller. However, If i were in Miller's shoes, given how the team has gone from a President's Trophy winning cup contender to out of the playoffs in one season due to ineptitude of the front office, I would have reservations about re-signing in Buffalo. If Miller were to tell the team this summer "I am not re-signing here, I don't care how much you throw at me", what kind of offers would teams give?

Seems like Chicago would be a good fit. Not sure what they'd offer though.

yeah if only because miller is coming into his prime and, at 32, huet is on the downslope

Miller is still a young guy and will get better. Huet is fairly old now

You'd have to give Buffalo way more than a second for Miller. They have no other goalies who you can call legitimate starters. Miller has also led the Sabres to the ECF twice. Miller was amazing against Ottawa (Ottawa's 1-0 win was the most lopsided 1 goal game I have ever seen, but Miller made some incredible saves) so I don't see why Buffalo would be ready so ship him off, especially for non-first round picks

Do you think Huet is only worth a second?

Washington got him dirt cheap.

Montreal also had Price and Halak being NHL ready. Buffalo only has Enroth, who may or may not be ready yet.

I'd expect to see Miller return a notch or two above what Vesa Toskala got, which was a 1st, 2nd and 4th.

I see him going to Detroit for a draft pick and Johan Franzen or Valeri Fittipula.

Keep in mind when making offers that you're also getting a yo momma-off contest champion, too.

Miller is staying. The Sabres will have the money to sign him, and he is, unlike Campbell, actually worth the kind of money he will command. And I don't think Miller is that extreme where he wouldn't resign to stay in the community, etc.

Now if we grant Miller would consider demanding a trade, then keep in mind that current Buffalo needs are at center, defense (preferably RD), high end forward prospects, and (if they trade Miller) starting goaltender, and of course picks (who doesn't want picks?). We do not need defensive prospects or goaltending prospects, NHL-level wingers.

Not gonna happen, Detroit is already grooming Howard and if such thing happens in means Howard is going the other way, not Franzen or Filppula.

Valeri Fittipula? Geez, man. At least try to spell his name right. At any rate, Detroit doesnt have goaltending problems, and they need to get Howard worked into the rotation some time, and that looks like next year, especially with the way hes played in his few starts this year. Not to mention, why would Detroit trade two valuable players on their way to 20+ goal seasons while playing awesome defensive games as well, for a guy that confessed to the public media only a few years back that playing for the Detroit Red Wings "would be a dream" for him? If the Sabres dont re-sign him, and hes traded, he can go to another team for a short stint, and if Detroit really needed a goaltender at that point, Miller would probably know that and try the market in hopes of signing with Detroit. This is one of few cases where thered be a hometown advantage. Especially since Detroits cap situation looks great for at least the next 3 years, even with Hank needing to be re-signed.

Detroit doesn't even need a great goalie - just someone who can sit in net and occasionally stop a weak shot from the perimeter.

Wonder what the Sens would have to give up to get Miller?

Well, as a different sort of offer... In that scenario, I would think a team would consider tendering Miller an offer sheet. At least, assuming the above, a disgruntled player looking for a change might go looking for one in the current RFA practices climate. Perhaps in the $6M/yr range, six or seven years. Miller's awfully good, and hasn't yet peaked.

I suppose the question is whether there is a clear idea as to what dollar figure the Sabres would be willing to commit to keep him, and beyond what point it's a little too rich to stomach.

As for a simple determination of value, he's worth a good deal more than Huet. Perhaps a young 35-goal scorer. A Radulov, maybe, as a total hypothetical, not an offer taking into consideration needs on either side.

Miller will be a UFA after next season, not RFA.

Ack, so he will. Disregard then, as that certainly depresses his value considerably. Wasn't thinking, nor reading clearly, as it was stated above.

What's the point of getting anything in return? No matter who goes to the Sabres, they'll just get traded at the deadline in the last year of their contract.

I can't believe they thought Bernier and the #29 overall pick is worth missing the playoffs for.

And you're probably one of the people who wouldn't trade Lundqvist for Crosby.

Sabres on day of Campbell trade: 9th place
Sabres currently: 9th place

You make it sound like the Sabres were contenders before the deal.
