i liked this guy when he played for the Brandon Wheatkings in the WHL before he turned 20 and played pro in finland.. can any of you finland guys heard/seen him and how hes doin in the pro rankings i would assume?
Sami has been playing for Ilves in FEL and since he came from NA he has played mainly in the league team, but made some visits to junior games as well. The last two years have been difficult for him due to the lack of game practise i.e. getting enough icetime.
Ilves fans like him a lot, but for some reason he does not get the responsibility he deserves via his good work ethic and determination. He is for example playing a strong spring and that has shown also in the scoring board. Still his icetime is regurlarly under 10 minutes/game (average 9:32 and never in special teams) that is far too less for a young prospect´s development.
In the ongoing playoffs he is 1+2 in 6 games (which is very good considering his role), but the average icetime has dropped to 7:33. Coach Pietilä appreciates experience over anything, so veterans like Cameron Mann are sent to play power play etc., although the results from their presence have not been positive.
Sami´s contract with Ilves continues until 2009, but I think that the best solution for him would be to change to another organisation that shows real belief in him. He has potential to become a key player in FEL level or even more, but it is critical to get to play more to reach that.
