I think I'm gonna make the trip up for the opener.
October is a really nice time of year in that area.

At this point in time and knowing that a team will be in place, I think that having just over 1800 season ticket commitments is on the disappointing side though.

1800 is alot better than what the team had last season in philly, if they was 300 they were lucky, and opening night isn't going to be against the rats since they have opening night the same night.

Different situation though (although I'd be curious as to what their final STH number was as I'd bet it was higher than 300).

The Glens Falls area was supposedly dying for AHL hockey to return and a goal was set by the Brooks Group just to possibly bring a team to their city, which BTW still hasn't been reached. The area is lucky that the Brooks Group didn't have a Plan B and basically has no choice but to place their franchise there for the 09-10 season.

That said I am surprised that they didn't coordinate things a bit better to make sure that their opener was against the Rats. That way they would have ensured at least a few hundred making the trip from Albany.

Maroon was decent in AHL. When can we expect him in the NHL, if ever?

Questions like that are really hard to answer since the difference between the AHL and NHL is so big. Looking at the Flyers roster as it stands I think Maroon will probably be a regular in Glens Falls, but probably will get a callup here and there.

Did you watch him play? How is his skating and conditioning, his biggest problem since draft?

I saw a handful of his games. He certainly put up solid numbers in his rookie season, especially for a 6th round pick.

His biggest problem is probably the depth at forward the Flyers have. That alone might keep him in the minors for another season. That said I think another season in the AHL will do him some good, provided the Flyers surround him with decent linemates at that level. If he continues to develop I could see him being near the top of the list of players that the big club would call up due to injury.

nothing special but why wasn't Nikita Korovkin unable to make a place for himself in the AHL?

That article only mentions a t-shirt, nothing about a jersey.

That said sounds like some of the fans there aren't too pleased that there isn't any mention of Adirondack being included on the jersey. Honestly I don't blame them. They haven't had a team in years and there should be something on their jerseys to give them a local identity.

Looks like they've taken care of that.

Good deal. I think that was the right thing to do.

I'm still not happy that the team isn't being renamed, but it is what it is. I wonder what will happen to the Calder Cup banners that hang in the Spectrum? Will they be moved to Glens Falls?

What's the consensus on Jonathan Matsumoto? Will he ever earn a chance with the flyers? What's his contract status? I went to school with him and have skated with him on a number of occasions. Kid could play!

Still seems like a good prospect, Might see him up for a game or two this year. Powe and Kalinski got calls before him because they are more suited to a checking role on the 4th line

So if Powe and Kalinski/Nodl start with the team he's pretty high on the call up list.

So I would assume he's the first call up for a top 9 injury? He is definitely more of a skill player than a grinder, is he centering the top line for the phantoms?

Yeah well it's between him and Jared Ross. I'd like to see him get a shot since Ross has already had a few games. For the Phantoms you'll probably see 1a and 1b type lines.

Maroon-Matsumoto-Laliberte
JVR-Ross-Nodl

Or some combination of those players

And also Ross is a RFA, so as of now we havent signed him.

Good to know, thanks for you help. I'll probably be following along throughout the year.

Funny thing is, I met JVR when he was drafted. Would be neat to see them play together in the NHL (doubt mats will ever be a top 6 center there unless there is a rash of injuries but it should happen at some point in the AHL).

I read through the whole thread, too bad to hear about the Phantoms moving. That was a nice set-up you guys had with both teams in Philly.

Yeah JVR and Mats should see time together in the AHL this year at some point. Assuming JVR doesnt make the Flyers our of camp.

so the flyers drafted a 20yr old goalie and with marshall and bourdon turning 20 could we be looking at a very young phantoms team this year?

seems like it. I kinda like the phantoms so far. Could use some 3rd line scoring depth though.

JVR-Ross(RFA)-Nodl
Maroon-Matsumoto-Laliberte

is a decent top 6 though

D consisting of Bourdon, Marshall, Lehtivuori,Syvret(hopefully, RFA),Bartulis,Ratchuk

Riopel and Backlund in net

I would be surprised if that is the netminding tandem. I think you might see Teslak as one of the goalies with either Riopel or Backlund in the ECHL.

Backlund, I'm sure will never play in the ECHL. You dont come over from the SEL to play ECHL.

It will depend on camp, but so far Teslak has shown nothing promising. maybe he and Riopel will split backup time

I agree about Backlund, although I'm not sure what they will do with him if he is outplayed by the other goalies in camp. But, BTW, Coyotes "prospect" Joel Gistedt who was a 2nd round pick ended up in the CHL after playing in the SEL and got lit up all year (GAA over 4 and save %age around .870). You just don't know how a player, especially goalies, will adapt to play in North America.

As for Teslak, he had a pretty good year in the ECHL with Elmira including a solid playoff run with the Jackals. I'd like to see him get a shot.
