Man... I hope so much we lock up the playoffs berth this week. Than we will all sit down, have a drink, and watch Philly, Washington, Florida, Buffalo fight one another for the last spot in the last 3-4-5 days.

I like it!

For that to happen we would have to win our 3 games and the sabres would have to lose two games, one of which would have to be in regulation time.

they play tampa Wednesday and toronto friday, I dont think its gonna happen.

In fact, two wins combined with two Sabres regulation losses and we're in... because we would have more victories...

plus Toronto and Tampa are surprising a lot of people as the season ends...

Sure, but with two wins this week, that would put us to 93 pts,and while we wouldn't be mathematicly "in",we would be technically. And that's great since we're facing the B's two times!

Kind of true. Right now there are just over 20 thousand result combinations from 25 million that culminate in us missing the playoffs. Which is to say there is less that 0.1% chance of us missing. But I get that's still a "chance."

edit: And I should add that the only way it can happen is if we end the season 3-6 or worse.

exactly.
As we sit today, I say were in no problem, but still that chance is there. Crazier things have happened.

i just cant wait, the atmosphere in this city is just incredible and I love it come playoff time.

Last night I was abit hammered but I was eating at La Banquise when I overhead 3 guys talking about the Habs and the season and the futur. I turned around and joined their convo....When we were done talking, I was so pumped up for the post season.

I think we have to look at Philly not the Sabres.

Philly faces the Thrashers, Rangers, and Isles. With the way they have been playing it's not crazy to think they'd go 0-3 or 0-2-1.

Heres the thing.... Buffalo, Philly, Rangers, Ottawa, Boston, would have to all pass us for us to miss the playoffs...... either that or add Washington and remove one of those teams....

Its not just looking at the Sabres... its a matter of us falling to ninth...

We'd really have to fall off a cliff ourselves to have all those teams move ahead of us.

Well, there is less than 0.1% chance that going 3-6-0 lands us in 9th. That's juuuuust possible enough that I ain't celebrating quite yet. Of course, that's probably one of the scenarios where they win all their remaining mutually unrelated games, and I doubt we'll see that, so...

My point still remains that we don't want to finish in the 4/5 matchup.

With the parity in the East I don't think the 4/5 matchup makes a bid difference.

Oh I know that, I'm just talking about clinching a spot by the end of this week.

I think there is a big difference between playing a NJ or Pitt and playing a Phi/Bos/Fla/Buf.

Canes does a habs fan happy!

I just watched the replay off last night game with Ottawa vs Carolina. Wow for Sens fan.
Corvo and Eaves!
I love the effect this can have with their team`s thinking.
I always like the trade cause IMO it`s was a bad one for them.
I believe that with a win against the Sens next time around could give us a mental edge on these guys. The Cane just played them ruff a bit and see the result!
I`m not saying that they can`t handle the ruff stuff but saying it gets them off their game.

I don't want to face Pittsburgh and watch Smolinski playing against Malkin and Crosby for 4-7 games

I agree 100%. But there is a chance the Rangers finish in the seventh seed, which would be IMO our worst possible matchup. I would rather play any other team(considering Ottawa is not possible) than the Rangers. So hopefully New York keeps winning and stays in that 6th seed, away from us.

Theres some cool little stats on this site:
