Proposal: EDM/DET

Hey folks.
Just wondering what people thought of this trade.

1) Henrik Zetterberg and a 3rd for Ryan Smith

2) Jiri Hudler, Derek Meech, and a 2nd in 05 for Ryan Smith.

Oilers would jump on the first one, not on the 2nd one though.

First one looks pretty good. Second one, not so much.

And it's Smyth.

Alright.
Looks like Zetterberg and a third is too high for Smyth.
Send us Misha Joukov, too.

From a Wings perspective,

they would never move Zetterberg for Smyth one for one, much less add a DP. It is unlikel that Detroit would move a young stallion like Zetterberg given that most of their team are veterans. It is possible that Zetterberg would be moved but the return would have to be much sweeter.

2nd deal looks better for Detroit. I would do it.

From a Wings prospective I'd be more than Happy with this and wouldn't think twice about pulling the trigger..... I don't even think Meech is signed.

I think the Red Wings would be getting better value from this deal than EDM, but because of the youth problems and Grigorenko's set backs, I'd hold onto Zetterberg at this point. He's young, cheap, and already contributing.

How old is Smyth exactly?
And what does his contract look like (Length/Money)

27, turns 28 on the 21th this month
in the off-season signed a 2 year deal worth 8 million also with bonuses but no one but Smyth and the oilers know what they are

edit: makes 3.45 this season
4.55 next season

27 or 28.

Hmm. He signed a two year deal.

Hmm. That could carry him to Unrestricted Free Agency.

Better throw in Joukov.

Would you part with Joukov in the deal?

I think Lowe would rather get Fleishmann than Hudler for what each would fetch in trade value and I am pretty sure he is a big fan of Meech but I'd like something more substansial then an extremely late 2nd round pick in addition to Fleischmann and Meech.

and it would just be better if you just dropped the draft pick instead of the oilers adding Joukov, if anyone gets added it would be a roster player ex. Chimera

How about Zetterberg/Third 05 for Smyth and Joukov?

Notice that 2nd pick is in '05 as the Wings don't have one this year, so it could be higher than you think.

As for the switch of Hudler and Fleischmann, I don't think that would be a problem at all. I think Hudler is held in higher praise within the organization a/w.

Here's my philosophy when a team trades a star player...

They better get soembody back I've heard of :p

The first deal would be great, the second deal... yikes. (Yes I've heard of Hudler... but yikes.)

as a wing

1. hell no
2. again, hell no

id rather wait out hudler and meech then get smyth..

and Z IMHO is already worth more then smyth because he's young and he's proving he can throw up the numbers pretty consistantly

Im a Z fan personally, but Id like to see how he does after the majority of the aging point producers on the Wings go off into the sunset. Dats, Hudler, Grigorenko (Fleischmann), make for a nice, but young/inexperienced and small offensive core.

As a Wings fan, I wouldn't do the first deal, but I'd definetely consider the second deal.
