GDT: Flames @ Avalanche, 7:30 MDT (PPV/Fan 960)

Calgary Flames: 39-26-10, 2nd in Northwest, 6th in Western Conference

@

Colorado Avalanche: 39-31-6, 4th in Northwest , 8th in Western Conference

The Flames look to keep their current roll going and take one step closer to clinching a playoff spot with a game tonight against Colorado.

This game will be the 8th and final time these clubs meet this regular season, and the series is pretty even, with the Flames holding a 3-1-3 record against the Avs this season. The most recent game featuring these clubs was only 5 days ago, in which the Flames played one of the best defensive games in recent memory, beating the Avs 2-1, while holding them to only 16 shots.

The Flames have won two in a row, while the Avalanche have lost their last 4 games, the most recent being a 7-5 scoring spree against the Oilers on March 22.

Pre-Game report:
http://flames.nhl.com/team/app?gameN...8&service=page

Nothing on Kerr's Blog as of yet, I will check it through the day to see if he posts lines, but with Warrener and Smith injured for Calgary, we will likely see something like this:

Tanguay Langkow Iginla
Huselius Conroy Nolan
Yelle Lombardi Primeau
Nystrom Boyd Nilson (Maybe Moss/Goddard)

Eriksson Phaneuf
Regehr Sarich
Vandermeer Aucoin
Hale

Kiprusoff
Joseph

Again, these are just what I think the lines may look like, and I will change them if I get some new info.

José Théodore will be in net for Colorado.

Injuries: Rhett Warrener and Mark Smith are out for the Flames. For the Avs, Adam Foote, Marek Svatos, and Brett Clark are most likely out.

Keys to tonights game:
  • Clog the neutral zone: In the last game against Colorado the Flames played a strong neutral zone game and frustrated the Avs. Let's do it again.
  • Keep Foppa off his game: Peter Forsberg is in the line-up tonight. Don't let him get in a groove. Hit him hard and often to make him a non-factor
  • Take Penalties (Within Reason): Colorado has the 29th ranked PP and went 0 for 4 the last game against Calgary and only have 2 goals in 15 attempts on their current losing skid. Play physical and don't be too concerned about penalties (but make sure they're worth taking)

One other game of importance for Calgary tonight, with Edmonton facing Minnesota. Thus, we have a chance to take the top spot in the division once again.

Let's play strong defence like last time and move one step closer to clinching a spot in the dance. Get it done.

GO FLAMES GO!!!

This game actually worries me a bit. Given the choice between taking on a team on a 4 game winning streak and taking on a team on a 4 game losing streak, I'd rather face the team on the winning streak.

Godard needs to set the tone immediately for this game and drop the gloves with someone in the first minute.

Considering how Vandemeers fight against Laperriere gave the Flames a huge boost last game, I would think Colorado would be a bit more hesitant to drop the gloves so early this time around.

That being said, I would also love to see Godard beat the snot out of someone early.

Foppa, yes. Foote, no.

Quote:
Tonight, the Avs will be without D Adam Foote (hip), which is bad news for them. On the bright side for Colorado, C Peter Forsberg (groin) has declared himself ready for action.

Quote:
The Flames' skate raised some eyebrows when G Curtis Joseph worked in the "visitors' end" -- the net the guests will be defending during the first and third periods. Typically, that's the starter's domain.

Not this time. Expect Miikka Kiprusoff to stay in.

LW Alex Tanguay skated, but left early -- but is expected to play.

Meaning the lines were a wee off-kilter (with LW Marcus Nilson jumping into Tanguay's second-line spot and LW Eric Nystrom jumping into Nystrom's fourth-line hole).

Plus, no one knows how much the six-minute man, LW Kristian Huselius, will play. But then again, in the absence of LW Mark Smith (head), someone -- C Dustin Boyd? -- gets to draw in.

Yeah, that works both ways. Don't be giving us no shootout win.

Deal. It still feels wrong to cheer for the Flames (as it probably does for you guys as well), but both of us need to win in regulation tonight.

Let's go Albertan teams!

We need this game to continue on this roll and roll into the playoffs. The Avs get so much offense from behind the net so we need to make sure we don't let them setup back there. Also, it's nice to see Floppa back, as it may be the last time I see him play so I want Dion or Regehr run him hard!!!

Yes, please do!

Take a run at Smyth, Liles, Hejduk, Burnette while you are at it to.
Leave Joe alone though, too much respect there.

Colorado is going to be a hungry team tonight and it should be a different game then it was on Thursday. They are fighting for their playoff lives and need the win desperately. Hopefully we can match their desperation and effort and come away with the win. Should be a good game.

GO FLAMES GO!!

Never have the Flames had so many bandwagon fans-- Oilers, Predators (me), even the Blackhawks fans are with you tonight. Maybe even the Canucks fans.... Good luck.

Unfortunately I wont be able to watch the game (DAMN) but some good updates on the game will be much appreciated. Especially ones about the general energy and speed of the game, since that you can see on the game stats pages.

Man this game will be tough since I think Colorado will give it everything they got....

GOOOOOOOOOOO FLAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's an upside down world when you guys need the Oil to win and we need you to win. I'll stop short of saying I want the Flames to win but.....well....dont let Colorado get any points please?

This is what is actually Christmas IMO. Amazing Hockey, rivalries flaring, yet still back seat to divisional points and standings watching, every game being bigger than the last.

This my friends is why we love the Greatest Game on Earth

Go FLAMES Go!!!!
