I think we're giving a lot.......but to get a good goalie, I think I might do it.

But what about Florida? I'm sure they like the return but then they don't have a top 10 goaltender.

1) Vermette is a UFA after this year.

2) Ottawa isn't going to trade their draft pick this year because the draft is in Ottawa. Next year the draft is too deep to be trading away picks.

3) That package isn't enough to convince Florida to trade away a very good goalie AND take on Gerber's retarded salary. Florida also would have no no.1 goalie after the trade.

If it means getting a goalie, I'm sure the fans will accept that they don't get to cheer a first round pick.

Gerber isn't a bad goalie, and he's signed for just one more season. He's actually been pretty good this year, and in a lower pressure environment, I think he'd be a very competent #1.

The value is good but the Panthers aren't giving up Vokoun. It sets them back.

He's a RFA after this year, methinks.

Vokoun was already traded last summer for:

2nd round selection in 2007
A 1st round selection in 2008 (top-10 pick?)
A conditional 2nd round selection in either 2007 or 2008.

I don't see the Panthers trading him.

While i agree about not seeing the Panthers trading him, I wouldnt put it past the organization.
- Gerber shows flashes of great goaltending, and even though i don't believe in this..maybe he needs one of those changes of scenery?
- Vermette can be a legitimate threat on your second line, and is dominant on the PK
- Zubov is a highly ranked prospect and is doing well in Russia right now, could be a 1st line center in the near future
- that 1st round pick, despite being 20 or lower, will be a good pick based on the depth of this years draft

All in all, i think the value is fair...but i just don't see Florida trading another #1 goalie

You won't find a single Panther fan who would make that deal.

I'll pass as I'm sure the Panther fans would.

I'd rather roll with Gerber for one more season and then he is off the books and we still have Vermette, Zubov and the pick.

Florida gave a lot toget Vokoun. I don't see them trading him anytime soon. The Sens need to buy out one or both of those contracts and make a run at Huet.

I'll ask you then: how would you feel about Olesz, Stumpel, Welch, and a 1st for Heatley? Because that's the kind of deal you're offering to them. It's a bunch of spare parts, picks, and prospects you aren't going to miss for something good.

Heatley is a bust, didn't you know? I'll take that deal.

Gerber has shown "flashes" of great goaltending since his rookie year. And, as for the "change of scenery", he is now on his third NHL team. If he ever develops into a consistent high level #1, I will be very surprised. In fact, if he played for a team that was non-elite, I not sure he'd be capable of carrying the load.

I guess I don't agree that the value is there. Vermett is a good two-way player but otherwise the package would hold little appeal for Florida. Gerber is a big downgrade from Vokun, and Zubov and a 1st are nice, but a huge downgrade from the picks Florida already gave up.

That's an accurate comparison.
