GDT: Canucks @ Flames, 7:00 MDT (Sportsnet West/Fan 960)

Vancouver Canucks: 38-27-10, 3rd in Northwest, 7th in Western Conference

@

Calgary Flames: 39-27-10, 2nd in Northwest , 6th in Western Conference

The Flames return to the dome tonight hoping to bounce back from a 2-0 blanketing from the Avalance last night in Denver, and at the same time look to leapfrog Minnesota to take top spot in the NW division.

This game will be the 6th time these clubs meet this regular season, and the Canucks have had the Flames number for most of it. The season series is a lopsided 4-1 in favor of Vancouver. However, the most recent game was in a 2-1 win for the Flames, back on New Years Eve.

Both teams are on 1 game losing streaks, and both have won 3 of their last 5 games. The Flames lost their game last night 2-0 against Colorado, while the Canucks lost to Minnesota 2-1 on March 21.

Pre-Game report:
http://flames.nhl.com/team/app?gameN...8&service=page

No official word on the line-up for tonights game, though I can't see it being any different from the last two: expect lots of juggling on the left side, and in all likelyhood Hale will be the odd man out of defence. Also no word on who is starting for Calgary, but my guess is that Kiprusoff will start, seeing as how Curtis Joseph played the final minutes of last night's game.

There is also an very slim chance that Roberto Luongo may not be playing in tonights game as his wife is apparently close to giving birth. This is a very unlikely scenario, but I haven't heard one way or another what will happen.

Injuries:

CALGARY
Rhett Warrener
Mark Smith

VANCOUVER
Mattias Ohlund
Aaron Miller
Lukas Krajicek
Mason Raymond

Keys to tonights game:
  • Keep it 5v5: Vancouver has the special teams advantage, ranked 13th on the PP and 9th on the PK. The Flames are 22nd and 20th respectively.
  • Traffic to the net: If Luongo can see it, he can stop it.
  • New Year's Resolution: Forget what happened in 2007. We have a 3 game series over the next few weeks. Let's win it.

We could afford to lose last night. We cannot afford to lose tonight. We're using up our game in hand tonight, so lets put it to good use and come out on top of the NW for the time being.

Here's hoping the Flames can make up for last night's loss with a win tonight.

A positive going into this game: Kiprusoff is 6-0-2 with two shutouts in his last eight starts at the Dome.

The Flames seem to play better on the second night of a back to back compared to the first but the Canucks seem to have had our number this year.

Altogether I don't have high hopes at all. Iginla is likely to get scrubbed out point wise by Willie Mitchell and our secondary scoring has taken a huge hit with Huselius in the doghouse and slumping. Prove me wrong guys!

I've never really viewed Vancouver as a large physical threat. And isn't that why Kennan said he was playing Hus less?

Not really. He's in Keenan's doghouse and been hot and cold this year (more recently cold). He's shown some offensive spark at the beginning of March but a bad game in Columbus might have been the last straw for Keenan. Keenan has recently called out Huselius as being too soft.

Yeah, I remember that just about every Canucks was in Iron Mike's doghouse for one period of time or another during his time here. He really did not like Naslund at all. Funny that Nazzy had the best four seasons of his life after Keenan left.

Naslund had his breakout year when Keenan was coach.

This game is on stupid PPV tonight so I'll be going to the theater I guess.

Well on paper this game is favoring us a little bit more since Mitchell is out according to the Canucks board.

I'm pretty confused why you guys are scratching Huselius, after Iginla he's the biggest Canuck killer... Anyway good luck tonight, we don't care if you make the playoffs. Just the Avs.

Mitchell kills Iginla every time we play the 'Nucks... so as bad as it seems, I am happy that he's down.

Good to see Boyd back in. Huselius situation is definetly getting interested. It has worked in the past, so hopefully he gets it going when he gets a chance to get back in the lineup. Should be a good game and as long as we keep the up the effort we should be fine.

Scratch that, he's playing and he might transmit the flu to Iginla during the game.

No he didn't. Are you on crack? Even if you consider 98-99 his breakout season, he racked up 49 of his 66 points AFTER Keenan was fired! For the first 43 games of the season he only had 17 points under Iron Mike!

very insightful. I, for one, am cheering for the oilers to make the playoffs (preferably over the avs) so what is your gripe with Canucks fans? Traditionally we cheer for the oilers if we get knocked out first. On the other hand, I can not honestly say that I've ever cheered for calgary. In fact, I cheered against them in 05/06 because they are poop heads.

The fight probably started like this:

Vandermeer: "You want to fight?'
Pyatt: "Them's fightin words."
*fight ensues*
