Hes a hell of a player, hell be the #3 center next year unless something drastic happens. I love his two way play.

It would be quite hard for him to be our 3rd center with Matt Cullen, Rod Brind'Amour, and Eric Staal all healthy unless there is something we're not hearing. Brandon is going to start his career as a RW it seems with Albany. I would imagine that would be a depth thing... but who knows. I could see him on a shut down line with Rod Brind'Amour in the future.

What how is he even eligible for the minor leagues next year? I thought he was born in '89? Or do those whopping 7 games as a 15 year old count as a season?

That was a quote from Jim Rutherford after the world juniors this season. Doesn't Matt Cullen have a history of playing all three positions?

And yes next year its NHL or Junior, he still has one year of eligability left.

If he was drafted in 2007, wouldn't that make 06/07 his 18 year old season in "hockey age", and thus the 07/08 season his 19 year old season?

He does, but Cullen is FAR more effective as a center then he is as a winger. If the Canes do make an offseason move I wouldn't be shocked to see them use Sutter with Brind'Amour to make a shutdown line with Eaves, Walker, Ruutu or even LaRose.

The rule is that if the player turns 20 AFTER Dec 31, then he is not eligable to go to the AHL. The only exception would be if the player has played 4 seasons in the specified Junior league.

Sutter was born on February 14, 1989 and has only played 3 seasons, hence another year of junior eligability in 2009.

why did they sign him? he's soooo bad! I watched him in the WHL and he only gets recognized because of his family name. he's such a bender.

Sutter is gonna be a great 2 way player IMO. He will be known more for his defensive play than his offensive play tho.

Sutter led his team in goals (26 - 2nd best was 13), assists (23) and points (49 - 2nd best was 27) .

the Rebels were mediocre this past season.

His WJC was underwhelming, though I heard he wasn't at 100%. At the Super Series though, he did way more than enough to impress me. I was a huge fan of him then.

Great player. Right now Carolina has a GREAT mix of talent.

Samsonov - Staal - Cole

Whitney - Brind'Amour - Williams

Ruutu - Cullen - Walker

Eaves - Larose - Letowski

Why won't anyone answer my query? How is he allowed to play in the AHL next year?

sure, I watched him play b/c my bro actually plays in the western league and he wasn't fast or skilled IMHO, but he does work hard and get chip in goals. I just think he'll be a routine 4th line grinder in the NHL for a few seasons. He honestly didn't impress me w/ all the hype. Thats all I thought.

by not fast or skilled do you mean that he doesnt put up 100pts?
hes a hard working forward who can score and play defensively. he'll be a sam pahlsson type player, with the ability to score a little more often than pahlsson.
whos your brother?

There's no denying that he's exceptional in his own end, is strong on faceoffs, and can chip in on offense occasionally. Honestly, if he becomes a solid third line center who can be the main man on a PK, I'll be very happy with him. I don't think that's unreasonable to expect, in fact I think most everyone thinks that's where he'll find his place in the NHL. I'd be thrilled if he became a Sami Pahlsson or Jay Pandolfo type player

players can sign ATO's (amateur tryout contracts) when they are underaged and their junior team has completed their season. You see it a lot read the thread stickied above with regards to when CHL players can play in the AHL...This coming season 2008-09 the overage year in the CHL is players born in 1988 so players who are born in 1988 and older are eligible for the AHL.....Sutter being a 1989 is eligible only for the NHL or WHL.

No they won't. He's too young to play in the ahl next year and he's obviously not going to crack their lineup. He'll play out another year in junior then go to Albany the following season. Only prospects they're likely to sign soon are Stefan Chaput, Nick Dodge (who they're in talks with) and maybe Harrison Reed

Letowski will be gone next season. He is an impending ufa who never really lived up to expectations here. I think we may see Brind'amour slip down center the third line. He needs to cut back on his ice time a bit so the minutes he does play are better. Third line, first pk unit and some pp time. Plus he's always out there for important draws. If the canes re-sign Samsonov, and the interest is mutual, they will have to trade a forward. I never thought there could be such a thing as too much depth but next years team will have that problem. Finally, I'm hoping, they can trade for a legit top pairing defenseman.

Samsonov - Staal - Cole
Whitney - Cullen - Williams
Ruutu - Brind'amour - Eaves
Larose - Sutter - Walker

That's what the forwards will look like for next year if ufa Samsonov and rfa's Eaves, Ruutu and Larose are resigned (which they will be) and Sutter wins a roster spot like canes management expects him to. Ridiculous depth.
