Considering the fact that we didn't keep Downie, I'll have to go with Rask. Even if we kept Downie, I would still prefer Rask.

How would you like to be John Ferguson, Jr in this debate? Chose Pogge over Rask. Oops.

Hey, I'm just poking some fun at you guys with this, because we are all often wrong with our predictions about prospects, but how would you like to be a fly on the wall after JFJ and Mike Milbury got together for a couple of drinks

Milbury:

"You think that was bad, what about Muckalt, Chara, and Spezza for Yashin...WTF was I thinking!!??"

I didn't read the whole thread, but knowing the Flyers they know nothing about goalies so they wouldn't have drafted Rask anyway.

And Downie is the greatest hockey player of all time.

JFJ is no more smart than your typical HF poster. Pogge had a great WJC, but people considered Rask to be poor in the same tournament. In fact, some were convinced Rask would bust. JFJ, desperate for a goalie in the NHL, I guess felt Pogge was better than Rask because of that WJC, which is why you don't use the WJC in that context.

I think if HF Boards ruled the roost back then, the 1039 posts that thread would have had, I'm sure most of the people knew that was a terrible idea for the Islanders.

And then a few years later...Redden or Chara. Again, oops.

some pretty good names in that 2005 draft went in the 2nd and 3rd rounds and beyond.
Stastny was mentioned already Letang,Hensick and Jonathan Quick went in the 3rd.
Keith Yandle went in the 4th.
As far this proposal goes wasnt Downie consitered a reach at the time he was drafted? I seem to recall he was in the 70's somewhere on most draft boards.
granted it looks like his draft status may end up being justified with his play this past season and hope he can build off that.
Hindsite being what it is obviously you go with the goaltender. But we all know this organizations reluctance to draft goaltending in round 1.
Maxime Ouellet says hi.
on a side note I see Roger's Pancreas in the thread. Good times. He was a pretty good poster back in the day.

this thread just makes me sad reading through it. hindsight and all...

it just makes me think more and more about how the entire flyers front office would benefit from a little bit of house cleaning.
