Why does it matter what we, the fans, think?

Tanking is for the weak. If we can't beat Washington we have no chance at the cup anyways.
Excellent point, plus a win at the last match is a good way to start the playoffs with confidence.

I'll deal with who ever we have to face. If it happens to be the Caps, no problem, I don't care, the Habs in playoffs can beat any team.

Just stating fact. Those two teams cannot match the scoring depth, top defencemen nor the goaltending of the Habs. So really no one should be worried.

Then you consider we have to face Ovechkin with Komisarek banged up. On top of all that, Washington will be hotter than a firecracker and will have NOTHING to lose.
That is not the attitude of a fan expecting his team to win the Stanley Cup.

Seven game series, there are 29 teams in the NHL we can outlast and endure. I stick to that opinion until proven otherwise.

You do not "tank" first place. Ever. Having home ice for that seventh game in the later rounds if you need it is far more important than cherry-picking a first round opponent.

I ain't expecting it simply because this team is WAY too young to have legit cup expectations. This is the ''get the kids a lot of playoff experience'' year, next year is the ''time to make a legit run now that everyone has some solid playoff experience under their belt'' year. If we somehow win it all, then GREAT. But I ain't going to jump off a bridge if we lose in round 2 or 3.

If we win a round this year I'll be happy. If we don't get blown out in round 2 I'll be very happy. If we win 2 rounds I'll be ecstatic.

Facing Washington is facing the equivalent of a 4th-5th seed IMO. Look at their record under Boudreau, they are a damn good team. Boston and Philly we can beat because they can't handle our speed. Washington, especially if Komisarek is not 100%, has the potential to be a long, hard fought series with the Caps having the best player in the league on their side...I am not saying tank the Leafs game by dressing half the Bulldogs, but maybe you don't play your best players a lot and you hope the Leafs pull off their typical ''A game'' against us.

If they plan on doing that, then just refund the money to everyone who paid for tickets to that game, and give back the money to the networks broadcasting the game, deduct some salary from the players,
etc...

then put on some tights and go prancing around the ice like fairies

tanking = cheating

No, no, no! On emotional and practical grounds I'd prefer not to head into the playoffs on a losing note. The Leafs wouldn't throw the game, so why should the Habs? That game could decide who wins the conference, and THe Penguins are only a pint behind. Besides, the Habs haven't even clinched their division, much less the conference. If Ottawa wins against the Habs and the Habs don't mop up the Sabres and Leafs, they could end up facing the Devils in the first round. So, OP, it's a very bad idea.

I'm not saying we should tank, I'm asking should we consider resting the lineup like many have said and if we lose no biggy.

it's weird that the two games against the stapled leaves don't mean very much

So we're one of the best teams in the east and we're afraid to face the caps?

I'm not. As far as I'm concerned, anything less than a conference final now is a disappointment.

What some of you don't realize is that the Caps are one of the best teams in the East too. They just had a terrible start, once they got a real coach in there they took off.

6-14-1 under Hanlon.

33-17-7 since Boudreau took over. They actually have a slightly better record than the Habs since Boudreau came in.

Maybe so but our players are much better looking and we have a guy playing with a Mofo'ing' turtleneck!

Better than that and we would have Freakin' Sharks with Freakin' Lasers on their Heads playing for us!

Good looks and turtlenecks have to count for something if you ask me.

Play to win #1 in the Eastern Conference and gain home ice advantage. Boston, Phillie, or Washington, it's all the same.

I can't see why we won't win against the Caps. Huet is good, and he's going to play his best against us, but our shooters know him. Meanwhile, the caps have less depth than us, worse defense and, well, AO can't do it all. I don't see them as a particularly deadly playoff team. (of course I'd rather face Boston, who wouldn't?).

Yeah, I can see what you're trying to say, but a team that had a terrible start is as good as a team that's been consistent all year?

i would much rather face washington in the first round anyway. theres something about beating a team 8 times in one season that bothers me. i really do not want to face the bruins in the playoffs. they are bound to win against us. washington would be a great first round matchup for us
