Biron or Ahonen

Recently two goalie proposal have come our way Ari Ahonen for J. Smith and Martin Biron for J. Smith, both proposals were fairly warmly recieved by both Oiler fans and the Devils and Buffalo fans respectivelly. So if you had to choose which would you go with?

Between those two, Ahonen, but of Noronen was an option, I'd much rather have him than either.

Just something to think about:

JDD will be in the AHL next season right? Personally, I'd like to see him get a lot of games down there, so Ahonen would have to make the big club quickly. Which would most likely mean Conklin would have to take the #1 job with Ahonen backing him up next season. Assuming Salo is gone.

I would probably go with Biron because Ahonen is a pretty risky trade. A top4 dman for someone who hasn't had good numbers in two years and has never set foot on NHL ice. I read in another thread people pointing to his team playing poorly, but I checked the team dead last in the AHL this season and they have two goaltenders who have played more games and have much better numbers. Not sure if that really means anything, but it's noteworthy atleast. Anyways, if we went with Biron, he could step right in with Conklin backing him up and let JDD get the ice time he needs in Toronto. Less risk, possibly less payoff...but I'd be fine with it atleast. If we got Ahonen and he turned into a star, I'd be thrilled, but if he didn't develop into anything more then an AHL goaltender or an NHL backup, I wouldn't be a happy camper. Atleast you know what you're getting with Biron. I also like Noronen if he was offered.

PS: Just wanted to say I know you could call every prospect a risk, but in my mind he's not one of the top goaltending prospects in this league, so it might be a risk not worth taking when giving up a key peice of your current roster.

I'd rather have Ahonen.... I think Biron has pretty much hit his ceiling in this league, while Ahonen seems to still have a lot of potential, and has been handled correctly by the Devils. Although he has shaky numbers, he was playing for the brutal River Rats.
