Late surging Habs defeat in extremis Sabres in OT-4-3 IN OT

You have the opportunity to discuss of tonight's game and express your reactions.

Montreal's current season record is now of 44-24-10 with 98 points accumulated and are temporarily back to 1st in the East, thanks for basically a high-way robbery commited in extremis to the Buffalo Sabres, who have their playoff hopes evaporating now with this heartbreaking loss. They're now officially eliminated from playoff contention.

The Canadiens finished a late and surging comeback began in the third with Higgins's 24th goal of the season, who scored the winner at 3:38 in the overtime session, assisted by Mark Streit(3 helpers tonight) and Saku Koivu.

I was going to kill Streit.

5 Minutes later, 3 assists!

Good effort, the refs were horrible, we owned those slugs.

Good teams find ways to win, I guess.

That's what I think of this game...

We played like a cat plays with a hamster before it kills it. It wasn't fair... we gave them hope... and then SWIPED them with our razorsharp claws!

Very cruel!

Great comeback BUT efforts like this will not work in the playoffs...

This team is special!

Gotta loves this team's headspace going into the real games.

Carey remained calm even though the Sabres were in his kitchen all game. Habs kept using the same stategy until it worked in the third, even though they were frustrated entering the zone for most of it. And the individual performances by Streit, Pleks, and Higgy were just wow.

By far the most hilarious game of the year.

Habs show up for a solid 2 minutes 45 seconds and take the 2 points.

If a was a Sabre fan I'd be slitting my wrists right now.

This goes out to all the idiots who destroyed streit for 1 mistake and hes been MORE than solid for us ALL year with CRAPloads of assists and timely goals

I dont care what none of you say, i wasnt CRAPPING all over streit after that last one, i just thought we didnt deserve to win the game..

BUT

NICELY done higgins new career high in goals

lol Pleks closing in on 30!!

Kovy 34 goals 47 assists, my goals for him at begining of the year 35 goals and 50 assists!!

and LOL sabre fans must be in SHOCK...there STILL in the arena just asking each other what just happened and why wont the police arrest the habs

I'm glad Montreal stole the two points and turned it on, but I'm pretty saddened by the effort in the first 55 minutes of the game.

I convince myself that it's ok if they lose Streit when he makes bad defensive plays, then he goes and shows how important he is to this team on the point.

The initial 3 periods:

Habs on post-clinch letup + Sabres fighting for their playoff lives + Habs not scoring on chances + Sabres scoring on chances + Habs not getting bounces + Habs not getting calls + broken plays + turnovers = the very frustrating segment we saw for 56 minutes.

But the Habs are never, ever out. Haven't we learned? I guess I hadn't, even though I swore I had.

They'll be polite and say that "good things can find ways to win". But we know the truth, don't we? They pulled this one out of their... uh, orifices.

But maybe not as much as we might have thought initially. The shot total was lopsided, sure, but the PK was glorious, and the Habs did have a number of pretty good chances.

One guesses Carbo won't be too mean on Streit for his goal-giving giveaway as he all but engineered the comeback. 3 points for the Swiss army knife.

Hard to evaluate the guys after a game like that... there was the sublime and the godawful, all rolled into one. There is one guy, whoever, we can be completely unequivocal about one player:

What an amazing performance by Price. Absolutely game-saving on many occasions.

Streit with 58 points, which is the most on the team after Kovalev and Plekanec.

We didnt 'steal' tonites game just as Ottawa didnt steal their game in Buff this week; we simply worked hard up to the end and Buff didnt. Period
