Not preoccupied by Koivu's absence, he isn't contributing much to the team this season compared to the past, what I'm worried about is Komisarek...
I understand your point, Koivu isn't having a terrific season (point wise) this year. But to just totally blow off his importance..hmmm I think you're wrong.
Right now our number one line gets the majority of attention from other teams defenses. Facing the top checking line, playing against the top defensive pairings.
You take away Koivu from the 2nd line and now ALL of the defensive attention with be focused on Plekanec's line.
I'm worried about Komisarek's condition when the playoffs start as well. Not having him would be a huge blow to the team. But not having Koivu will effect us in a very big way as well.
No matter what happen in playoffs, Im proud of my team and the amazing season they had.. I was awaiting for years to see my team compete every nights, being more consistent in their effort and finally we can say our team turned the corner.. The best years are to come but I still believe we can make a long run despite all the guys injured.. If it doesnt happen, just too bad, its not dramatic, we will come back stronger next year..
IMO, Koivu will be back for the playoffs, he played when he just came back from chemio and played well all those years ago. A little broken bone which will have 2 and a half weeks to heal won't stop him.
Komi will be back too and he'll probably be pumped for the playoffs.
I'm not worried. I would be if the injuries were worst and if there wasn't some healing time before the playoffs, but it's not the case. I'd be much more worried if a guy like Kovy, Markov, Hammer, Pleks or Kosty would get hurt badly.

I have no worries about his willingness or toughness, I think the pain level isn't relevant, within reason, it's more a matter of whether the foot can take it. If he can't push off or move well laterally it would be pointless for him to play. His game is quick stops and starts.
In the meantime, at least Carbo has 3 games to evaluate the different scenarios. Teams often rally and pay more attn. to detail defensively when they're in that situation, and I've always believed that forwards being defensively aware is a huge key.

He pushed off and started and stopped pretty quickly the game he hurt his foot.
I know the swelling can increase when the boot comes off, but really believe that him being on crutches and in a walking boot is more precautionary than anything else. The foot will heal better without any stress on it. I have no more information than anyone else, but I would put money on Koivu being dressed for the 1st game of the playoffs.
I wasn't singling you out, otherwise I would of quoted you directly. I just used you as an example, and I'm sorry if I offended you, it was not what was intented. There were a slew of four or five posters that made a similar comment as you and I just happened to pick yours.

Thank you for clearing that up.
As for anyone else making similar comments I can't blame anyone for saying those things.
This is not something that should be taken lightly given the opportunity this team has to do some serious damage in the playoffs.

A lot of teams do this when they have clnched a spot.
Is there any more 411 on this? Has anyone seen Koivu on skates, or even in a pair of birkenstocks?
To me, Sergei and Higgins are not options to centre the second line. We can get some production from the rest of our crew up front, but a second line that's a real threat changes the equation no matter who we play.
