Yeah, I already think that he should be given the C.
Gomez gets an A and either Staal or Dubi with the other A.

I can already see Brooks using "Captain Clutch" in every article he writes. But a no brainer IMO.

Yeah, that's the problem with giving him the C in my opinion. I never want Avery to settle down, I get upset when he settles down for a game or two, but his skills don't make him a top six winger if he settles down, they might not even make him a third liner. He is no Brendan Morrow, if Sean Avery "settles down" I do not want him in Ranger Blue.

i was going to write exactly that..

you want him hyped and amped, not settled and captainy. you want him nuts, not 'C'-style

Well I suppose you could include Straka in that list well since he currently has an A. I still think it goes to Drury if those two leave, but a case can certainly be made for Straka should he be the only one of our trio of old wingers to return.

Drury "C"
Gomez "A"
Avery "A"

If Jagr, Straka, and Shanny go, these will be your captains and alternates next season. Avery was an alternate with the Kings and since the players vote on this, I would think the players would vote to make Avery an alternate over one of the young defensemen.

I don't think Renney will give it to Drury. Just don't see it happening.

You'd have to have all of Shanahan, Straka, and Jagr be gone next year for the Captain to be given away (because if ANY of them show up next year, they're getting it.)

Even then I think he'd go to Gomez.

Why would he do that? When one of the other three vets have been out this season it's been Drury who got the A. He's also been a captain before. So isn't he the logical choice?

You would think so but he never talks about Drury's leadership (although that may be a good sign.) He has praised Gomez's leadership ability on and off the ice just as much if not more.

For the record, I want it to be:

C - Drury
A - Gomez
A - Betts

Well I wouldn't take that as an indication that he doesn't recognize it. Let's face it, Drury has been the poster boy for strong and silent leadership for years now. And I think his temporary A's show that Renney recognizes what he brings.

Also, I love your idea of giving an A to Betts.

no letters to Avery, he needs the separation from "leadership" to play his game.

Betts with an A sounds good

Drury is already the captain in my mind. Jaromir JagBUM is holding him back. Coup d'etat time!

Drury C
Gomez A
Dubinsky or Callahan A

Betts wouldn't be a bad choice for the A either.

Dubinsky or Callahan won't have a chance at wearing an A for a couple more seasons at the least. No way Renney'll do that.

I can't think of another person that will be on the roster next year (for sure) that deserves that 2nd A.

Toots would be an option.

Drury will almost definitely be the captain. I don't see how we could pick somebody else. The alternates would be Gomez and either Dubinsky or Callahan IMO, unless they want somebody with a little more experience to have it.

I don't think Avery should get a C or an A, he's not that kind of player.
