Keeper Advice Wanted

I get: Langenbrunner and Malhotra

I trade: Gonchar and Afinogenov

It's a keeper and my team isn't really that good, but I'm thinking it's a pretty even offer.

Nah wouldn't do it if I were you, Gonchar should get you much more than that even if he is injured. It's a keeper league, it'd be worthwhile to hold on to him just for next year. I wouldn't trade Gonchar for Malhotra and Langenbrunner personally.

I agree...Gonchar is the best offensive defenceman in the NHL why would you take 3rd liners for him (eventhough langenbrunner is good) Gonchar is worth alot more.

Good stuff, well my advice then is to make him up the offer. Get a premier forward if you're weak up front, if you're looking for defensive help, keep Gonchar you don't get much better than him for point production... What I'm saying is to fill a defensive position with an all-star caliber type player is extremely hard in any fantasy league, if you are going to trade him away you better be getting a top caliber forward in return.

A deal's not going to work out. The guys I'm interested in are unmovable from his standpoint.

I'm working on getting Marleau from someone else.

Keep Gonchar until you can get better.

Gonchar for Legwand straight up. I'm thinking of saying yes, but waiting to hear from the guy about Marleau first. My team is hurting for another good, younger center. I have LW and RW pretty sealed up, but my best centers are Todd White and Steven Weiss, who is hurt. After that, it's Vermette.

Keep in mind that this is a 16 team, 30 player league, which is probably bigger than most of your's (from what I read in this forum). My team is actually in pretty good shape, I've been able to move away some vets like Shanahan and get some good youth in my team.

If I make this deal, I won't have any true blue chip defenders in terms of points. I do have Niinimaa and Lydman, but I will have traded away both Redden and Gonchar. It's not really a big deal though, as much as it might sound like what. I'll at least end up with equal production from the guys I got back, if not more. I don't really place that high of a preference on defense, as much as I used to.

a player, especially a defenceman, is much more valuable then a kid like Legwand (no offence David). It's bad enough you don't have Redden anymore...lol.

Hold on to gonchar until a much better offer comes up.

good luck,

dutch

Yup, once again agree, not a good offer, Legwand or Marleau regardless... Like Dutch says "a defenceman is much more valuable" and while not in the exact context it is true... There are far fewer quality d-men like Gonchar out there, it is extremely hard to find one as productive as him... Guys like Legwand and Marleau, that put up their production, are of much less value... You could probably pull off Legwand and Marleau for Gonchar and still some people would say keep him... Hold off until you see bigger names.

I probably won't, though. Here's my roster

Centers
Todd White
Antione Vermette
Jeffe Taffe
Mike Zigomanis (at the moment, tommorow it will be Mike Danton)

Left Wings
Alexander Frolov
Ryan Malone
Kyle Calder
Oleg Kvasha
Petr Schastlivy

Right Wings
Marian Hossa
Trent Hunter
David Vyborny
Niko Dimitrakos
Max Afinogenov

Defense
Janne Niinimaa
Toni Lydman
Kyle McClaren
Mattias Norstrom
Richard Matvichuk
Shaone Morrisonn

Utility
Ales Kotalik
Tom Kostopoulos
Luc Robitaille
Chris Neil
Juraj Kolnik

Bench
Stanislav Chistov

IR
Sergei Gonchar
Steven Weiss
Marty Reasoner

Goalie
Vesa Toskala
Craig Andersson
Mikael Tellqvist
Marc-Andre Fleury (bench)

It's such a big league, that my scoring up front, especially after adding Marleau if possible, cancels out Gonchar's contributions. I badly need the center, too.

Maybe I'm not placing enough of a premium on Gonchar. He has put up 60+ points in the past though, a ton for a defenseman. I tried to get Samsonov for him, but the guy wasn't interested.
