Can the Habs catch Ottawa this year?

I've been thinking about this and wondering if we have a chance at the division title this season. They just lost their best goal scorer for 4-6 weeks and their goaltending is pretty inconsistent. That said they are still a very good team but will have their ups and downs. We currently sit 8 points behind them with the same amount of games played.

What do you think?

It would be nice to catch them but to be honest we can't seem to win 3 games in a row(it happened only once this year) so I say no.

the Habs are hot... I voted yes since it's unlikely, but possible.

if the Sens played the Caps more often we'd be in business. Sens fans must watch that bottom seed like hawks hoping the Caps don't creep into that slot.

If we can't catch the Sens then it'd be nice to take the #4 slot and host a playoff series. Our home and away record aside, you still want home ice advantage in a place like the Bell Centre. Perhaps the teams in the Atlantic Division will hold each other down. That's a tough division this year.

I would love to think we can.... but I just don't think that we are able too....
I don't think we are consistant enough to pass them

No. Team needs to walk before it can run.

Let's hope for the playoffs.

well i think they have a chance with heatly out, but i dont think the habs have what it takes. up to now they have been doing well, but they need to play better if they want to catch up. and if its the habs well they always manage to blow it when hopes are high. ill take a playoff clinch before the last game of the season, and hope to win couple rounds. next year is when im hoping for bigger things

Still have 4 or 5 meetings left, do they not? That makes for an emphatic 'yes'.

I guess anything is possible and as much as I would love it I do not think it is very likely.

I would be so happy if somehow the caps beat out ottawa in the first round and then we went on to the next round also

I wish, but doubt it. The secondary guys are underrated.

Their goaltender situation continues to be their weakest point and it will haunt them in the playoff, but they will be able to cover it in the regular season with less intense/talent opponents

A lot of the players on the team seem to have hit a slump, except for that second line.

I wonder if it's possible but I wish it was

When you take into consideration that the habs and sens meet three or four more times this year, it could be quite possible.

No, I don't think so and the last time the question was asked the Habs fell into oblivion a couple of weeks after.

so true. pretty much the exact time. we were 5 points back of Ottawa last year and folks starting asking this question.

no we can't catch Ottawa. I sure hope the players don't worry or think about these kinds of things because they just need to take care of there own business and let the chips fall where they may.

I'm hoping that we already had our annual drop off earlier this season, lucky for us around that time teams that hadn't been winning started to and vice versa so we didn't lose much ground.

I just hope they keep playing well, winnign games and i'll worry about the standings in March.

no way in hell, till now the Habs are right in scedule for a total january meltdown after a strong 1st half of the season just like every year since the last 5, not to mention we're as close as being out of the playoffs as much as we are to catching the Sens. If we lose one ok Kovalev, Markov or Komisarek this team is in trouble. I'm not hoping or even expecting a bad 2nd half but it's way too early and 8 points is really alot to catch a team like the Sens

Ottawa: Injury problems and goalie controversy
Montreal: Faceoff problems and shootout stability

While I can believe the idea of Ottawa getting more injured (If Mike Fisher gets a concussion, they are gonna drop harder than their top line guys getting hurt) and dropping down the chart, its hard to see the Habs passing them. However, it all depends on how different Montreal looks from now til the deadline. We drop some deadweight, add a few rentals, stay healthy... we could certainly take the top of the Northeast. I just can't fathom taking the East.

No, I agree with the fact we havent strung together any sort of winning streak this year.
I hope they prove me wrong, but I will still be very happy if we make the playoffs.
