BUTCH!!!
Interesting story: Kings broadcaster *** *** (has an outside shot of being picked) talked about how Butch was his roommate on the road, and apparently Butch was not very interested in things like showering and changing clothes.
I also believe that he was the last player/coach in NHL history.

Yeah he was considered very un-hygenic because of superstition and also was a really bad dresser.

Best defenseman available on my list. Great hitter. Very good pick.

Butch doesn't seem interested in many things. He's kinda aloof.

I guess they saw it the same way I did.... you might be able to wait and get him next time if you had a pick in the middle of each rond, but since we pick so close together you basically get your picks every two rounds.

Damn Doc Dark made him such a big riser last time he wasn't going to fall under the radar.

I knew he was coming up for LL soon. Definitely a Maple Leaf alumni in this draft in more ways than one.

Actually, I thought of picking Moose earlier, with the Desjardins pick. But Lapierre strongly suggested Desjardins, we both agreed on Desjardins as a safe pick.... Johnson went roughly at the same rank than last draft, but he was picked by BM67, who isn't there this time around - and I highly thought of BM defense last draft.

So it was a gamble that worked. Meanwhile, I'm really not sure Desjardins would have been available at 225. I was sure Johnson would.

Wow, you really don't like the Foote pick, do you? To answer the question you asked yesterday, yes, Foote has been a top-10 defenseman in the NHL. THN frequently ranked him between 6th-10th in their pre-season rankings during his prime.

Second- yes, Lowe probably has Foote in overall ability. Very solid defensively, smart with the puck, pretty good offensively... but is he really that mean? Foote is a completely different player in that regard. He filled the need of my team. There are plenty of guys like Lowe. It's not about BPA anymore.

And Foote has been selected significantly earlier than Lowe in every ATD. It's not like that is definitive proof of anything other than the GM's here generally like him better, but it's still worth mentioning. (disclaimer - I didn't look at who picked him in the past, but if this is another carbonneau situation where the same guy keeps taking him and failing, then the defense rests)

The Ottawa RCAF Flyers are proud to select a GBC favourite. A tenacious two-way winger who will work very well with Jacques Lemaire on our checking line. A five-time 40-goal scorer, a 1994 Stanley Cup champion and a guy who hovered around the point-per-game mark in the playoffs throughout his career:

RW Steve Larmer
I think Steve Larmer is the perfect prototypical 2nd line winger. Pretty much a bit of everything, great pick at this point, and is rather well used with Lemaire.

Brief bios for my last few picks...

D Art Ross

Stanley Cup Champion (1907, 1908)

http://www.legendsofhockey.net:8080/...io&list=#photo

Quote:
Ross recorded 85 goals in 167 regular-season games and provided stability and savvy in the defensive zone. He won the Stanley Cup twice as a player... He rapidly earned the distinction of being one of the top rushing defensemen in the game ... Ross was a key reason the Red Bands finished at the top of the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association standings and then beat back the Stanley Cup challenges ... He followed with two years in Ottawa, where he introduced the "kitty bar the door" defensive alignment that baffled teams preferring a freewheeling offensive game ... In 1945 Ross was part of the first group of players elected to the newly founded Hockey Hall of Fame.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_Ross

Quote:
He was a fearless and rugged defenceman and never shied away from a fight. One of his most legendary was with Minnie McGiffen of the Toronto Blueshirts in which both players were arrested for assault and referee Cooper Smeaton almost got arrested.
#7 - C Igor Larionov

WJC-A All-Star Team (1980)
USSR First All-Star Team (1983, 1986, 1987, 1988)
WEC-A All-Star Team (1983, 1986)
USSR Player of the Year (1988)
Played in NHL All-Star Game (1998)
Stanley Cup Champion (1997, 1998, 2002)

http://www.legendsofhockey.net:8080/...p?player=10892

Quote:
Igor Larionov was already heralded as one of the top hockey players in the world when he finally made his NHL debut in October of 1989 at the age of 29. Prior to that debut, Larionov had earned this reputation during a dominant stretch back home in Russia where he centered the top-line in the country for several years ... He was a big part of the Russians 1981 Canada Cup victory as well as being a huge contributor to Olympic gold medals for Russia in both 1984 and 1988 as well as several World Championship titles ... (In San Jose) Larionov was the key to the Cinderella post-season march with 18 points in 14 games ... (In Detroit) The veterans poise and leadership in the locker room was immeasurable but his 71 points in 69 games was ... The skilled pivot once again piled up assists for the team and played a solid two way game.
D Harry Cameron

Stanley Cup Champion (1914, 1918, 1922)
139 points in 128 NHL games
The first player in NHL history to achieve a "Gordie Howe hat trick"

http://www.legendsofhockey.net:8080/...t=ByName#photo

Quote:
He was considered the first man to be able to curve his shot--with a straight stick, no less!--and long before Bobby Orr flew end to end with the puck Harry Cameron was the finest rushing defenceman and goal-scorer of hockey's early pro years ... In Toronto he was teamed with [CENSORED], the equally light, reliant and talented blueliner. Together they won the Stanley Cup in 1914, and Cameron stayed on to win again with the Toronto Arenas in 1918, the first time an NHL team had won ... before returning to Toronto, the franchise by now called the St. Pats, and sure enough he helped the team win another Cup, in 1922 ... He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1962.
#8 - RW Ken Hodge

NHL First All-Star Team (1971, 1974)
Played in NHL All-Star Game (1971, 1973, 1974)
Stanley Cup Champion (1970, 1972)

http://www.legendsofhockey.net:8080/...p?player=12959

Quote:
Because most of the team was small and Hodge was 6'2' and 210 pounds, he was expected to be the team's policeman for the next two years. "It was my job and I did it, but it cost me offensively," ... Hodge played on the Bruins' number one line with Esposito and Wayne Cashman and his confidence exploded. He started to use his strength to hold onto the puck and create scoring chances instead of fighting, and he became one of the best scorers in the league because of his excellent shot ... Hodge twice scored 100 points in a season, and in 1973-74 he scored 50 goals for the first and only time in his career.

A big, strapping fellow, Hodge moves efficiently on the ice and he's a rough man to meet in the corners

I'll answer, Wanderers way.

If he covers Malone, fine, he can somehow do the job. There ain't many D-Men that can skate with Malone, and Rexy is maybe one of the three.

If he's to cover the much bigger (and equally fast) Pitre, he's in trouble.

Anybody know numbers for Cameron or Ross? And since Hodge is 8 and Larionov wore 7 in San Jose I did it that way, but is there another more well known number for Igor?
