I wonder if it's because they lack budget, but knowing RDS it could just as well be because they have no idea what they're doing. They need to start understand we don't give a crap what Pedneault has to say and I think I speak for most when I say I'd rather hear the deafening Montreal crowd.

Bob Cole's stirring call, 27 seconds long:

"They were not supposed to be one of the favourites.... to make the Stanley Cup final this year....these Canadiens....but Ronald Corey got Serge Savard....he hired Jacques Demers....and all together they worked a young team to the top....and now....a 24th Stanley Cup banner will hang....from the rafters of the famous Forum in Montreal ..............the Canadiens win the Stanley Cup!!!"

Bob Cole earned a place in my heart forever with that call. You could tell he was excited for the team, and oh so respectful of the Habs tradition.
One of the best sports calls ever.

I do not care who the announcer is as long as we get to hear him announce that the Cup is going to reside in its proper location .

I don't bother with the CBC broadcast much because they don't tell the story from the Habs perspective and it's like a visitor coming into your home and acting like they know all about you. RDS is just fine for me. Bit by bit, the corners on my head are rounding off.
Aaah, I knew poutine would be more of a chisel than la Loi 101.

I might be the only though, but while he's senile, Cole can still put a lot of excitement in a game.
If he was a Habs fan I'd like him better. I don't like homers though. Either way, as long as he calls a good game.

Those who are upset should look at the alternatives and reconsider.
Yeah I have heard the alternative and excuse me if I'm slightly bothered during HNIC Leafs vs. Habs when Play by Play gives me the urge to punch a baby.

Jim Hughson calls the west coast games VERY well and enhances the game (which admittedly Bob did in his prime).

Maybe its being assigned to so many Leafs games but I'd have a hard time believing he isn't still waiting for the Blue and White drought to be over.

I guess I'm looking for a non-bias kind of announcing while still infusing the game with emotion.

That's fine.

I'll take Bob Cole over Jim Hughson (Chris Huet...) or Mark Lee, who butchered a Habs/Bruins series a few years ago.

Edit: Mark Lee covered the Oilers playoffs two years ago, and he was bruuuutal.

It was Don Wittman(RIP)who called both Habs/Bruins series in 2002 and 2004 IIRC.

Yeah, you're right.

After I posted my message, I was second-guessing myself. I knew it wasn't Lee, but I couldn't recall who it actually was.

Nonetheless, he did the Oilers games, and they were painful to listen to.

Bob Cole I can deal with. I like Hughson, but Cole is still the voice of hockey in my brain.

It's Harry Neale you have to worry about and we don't have him, so woo.

Hughson is their premiere guy, Bob Cole in waiting. He's amazing, at least when the Canucks are not involved

Wow, the hate for Bob Cole! I still respect Bob Cole and I am looking forward to it. Jim Hughson is really good, but I think it makes sense to have Bob Cole do the Habs series. Bob Cole is entertaining, he will be amazed at how good the Habs can be.

Go Habs Go.

Bob Cole has given me goosebumps on too many occasions since I was young when calling Hab games - I'll definitely take him.

He is old as **** now though, and sometimes cant remember where he is me thinks, but I still love him.

Edit: CBC wins the epic fail award for letting Chris Cuthbert walk away - he's tops in the biz for me.

Who didn't see this happening? I might have watched the Habs series on CBC had it drawn Hughson... but I'll just stick with my reliable and trusty RDS.

I love RDS because of Pierre Houde... He may be a bit obsessed with pronouncing names correctly but he is really good to hear. Pednault on the other side

I love Bob Cole. Granted, he makes numerous mistakes now in his old age. But I love his voice... brings back memories of watching HNIC growing up - when there was only 1 game on TV a week.

Bob Cole is indeed a Habs fan and if some small minded people cannot accept this then that is their problem. I'd say Bob is going to be pumped for this series and I can't wait.

By the way, what annoucer could possibly make the majority of Leafs games sound exciting?
