I know it's been discussed ALOT here, but it's still fun to go back and watch.

Funny enough, three years later, McGuire was the leading pitchfork and torcher to get Huet out of Montreal.

Wow I remember that. Once pouliot went 4th i remember i was soo happy because i thought the habs were goingto get Brule, whom some thought was better than Crosby!. I was soo pissed off for them for picking Price and it ruined my night. Boy was i wrong for doubting that pick.

hes way to irrational for me, maybe that is what him a good analysts, but he doesn't take everything into account and weighs too much on things he deems important, like the book is out on Huet...

McGuire's reaction, "Man, this is right off the reservation!" And then McKenzie going on about how risky it is to pick a goalie at such a young age.

In retrospect, Gainey was spot on making that selection at #5 of the 1st round.

Same, but at least I know why I should never be the Habs GM, I will just buy them one day and hopefully have a great staff like we have now!

I remember listening to the draft at work, and going on here and the Canadiens board, everyone was going nuts they made this pick. Fire Gainey, blah blah blah

I was in the same position as you. I was royally pissed that the Habs picked Price. Now they have the next generational talent in goal and I could not be any happier .

I liked the Price pick.

I can't say I liked it for any reason other than I tend to be "blind faith" when it comes to Bob Gainey. I felt when we brought him in, he'd be the saviour of the team, and if Gainey said Koivu should skate wearing a mini skirt and shoot pucks in with a wiffleball bat, thats the way we're going with the franchise.

Gainey selecting Price I went, "Wait, what?" but in the end, I argued to my friends that Gainey knows what he is doing, and so I'm going with Price. Blind faith.

So yeah, I can't say "Nyah, I told you so" because I was just believing whatever the Gainey administration told me what was the right way. However, for all of those that bashed Gainey in December, thinking our franchise was just as bad as the Houle years, I certainly say "Nyah" to you

Well, it turns out that perhaps someone in this 2005 draft WAS better than Crosby!

Saying Price > Crosby is like saying Roy > Lemieux. It's two different positions, two different players with two very different skills and importances to their teams.

I think both being on par as being great is a much better way to put it. They are certainly the two best picks in the draft so far so lets leave it there.

I always liked the pick... I'm surprised to heard Gainey talking about Halak... Like he was in the teams plans too...
