OT - Official Playoff Fantasy Pools Thread

Hey Guys,

So we did our playoff pool tonight. I actually won the regular season pool and collected my $500 for that... BRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAP!! Anyway, tell me which team you think is the best (the team you feel e you'd win with if you were in the pool). I'll let you know my team after a few replies!

We picked 12 forwards, 3 defense, 1 goalie. I've listed them in the order the players were picked. Team 1 picked first in the first round but then picked last in the second round. That's how it carried out through all 16 rounds. Here they are:

Team 1
Henrik Zetterberg, Dominik Hasek, Niklas Lidstrom, Andrei Markov, Andrei Kostitsyn, Patrick Marleau, Chris Kunitz, Daniel, Cleary, Saku Koivu, Brendan Morrow, Jiri Hudler, Maxime Talbot, Jordan Staal, Craig Rivet, Mikael Samuelsson, Bobby Ryan

Team 2
Alexander Ovechkin, Scott Gomez, Alexei Kovalev, Mark Streit, Chris Higgins, Dion Phaneuf, Sergei Fedorov, Mike Ribeiro, Brad Richards, Alex Tanguay, Sergei Kostitsyn, Zach Parise, Antoine Vermette, Mike Modano, Cristobal Huet, Wade Redden

Team 3
Pavel Datsyuk, Jason Spezza, Carey Price, Niklas Backstrom, Brian Rafalski, Joe Sakic, Dany Heatley, Cory Stillman, Andrew Brunette, Viktor Kozlov, Niklas Kronwall, John-Michael Liles, Joe Pavelski, Brooks Laich, Michael Ryder, Jeremy Roenick

Team 4
Evgeni Malkin, Petr Sykora, Henrik Lundqvist, Jarome Iginla, Paul Stastny, Kristian Huselius, Ryan Whitney, Michal Roszival, Milan Hejduk, Daymond Langkow, Brendan Shanahan, Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan Smyth, Marc Savard, Jason Arnott, Zdeno Chara

Team 5
Sidney Crosby, Marian Hossa, Sergei Gonchar, Chris Pronger, Todd Bertuzzi, Corey Perry, Mathieu Schneider, Mike Richards, Daniel Briere, Vaclav Prospal, Mikko Koivu, Pierre Marc Bouchard, Gary Roberts, Mike Knuble, Marc-Andre Fleury

Team 6
Jean Sebastien Giguere, Ryan Getzlaf, Jaromir Jagr, Teemu Selanne, Scott Neidermayer, Ryan Malone, Tomas Holmstrom, Marian Gaborik, Pavol Demitra, Johan Franzen, Pascal Dupuis, Samuel Pahlsson, Brent Burns, Brad Stuart, Jeff Carter, Joffrey Lupul

Team 7
Evgeni Nabokov, Joe Thornton, Tomas Plekanec, Alexander Semin, Brian Campbell, Peter Forsberg, Chris Drury, Mike Green, Milan Michalek, Wojtek Wolski, Jonathan Cheechoo, Martin Straka, Valterri Filppula, Guillaume Latendresse, Roman Hamrlik, Patrik Elias

ive learnt while doing playoff pools you gotta pick 2 teams (1 east, 1 west) and take players from those 2 teams only.

Last year i did it, I managed to land Spezza, Heatley, Perry, Selanne, Pronger and Getzlaf as my main point getters to go along with Vermette, fischer and the rest of the 3rd 4th liners from both anaheim and ottawa.

I won the pool by over 40 points.

your probably thinking my friends dont know how to draft, well they did the same as me, tried to pick from one team. Luckily I picked the 2 stanley cup finalist.

..I like team 2

I like team 7 for Thornton especially, but like Jaydee says, they are all a bit too dispersed.

sorry about that, i shoulda specified the scoring system.

its quite simple: 1 pt for a goal, 1 pt for an assist. 2 points for a goalie win, 1 extra point for goalie shutout.

I tried to do the same but with 7 guys in the pool, it gets kinda thin after a few rounds and you really don't want to pick guys who are 4th liners on your favorites, even if you do think they'll go all the way.

Depends if it's a big pool or not... You can go with the top point guys on conference finalists and do better in a small pool.

YO! So, yesterday night, people from the habs chat made a fantasy draft for the playoffs pool lead by RedScull. We had to draft 4 forwards, 2 dmen, 1 goalie.

Draft order was : Seb_Rafter, RedScull, LoneRogue, TCIH, Komisarek_Freak, Jeffonfire, MoMo316, HarryI, Chomsky, Hackett.

Here are the teams :

2) Heatley, Dany
3) Selanne, Teemu
4) Stastny, Paul
5) Chara, Zdeno
6) Rozsival, Michal
7) Theodore, Jose

RedScull :
1) Malkin, Evgeni
2) Gaborik, Marian
3) Fleury, Marc-Andre
4) Schneider, Mathieu
5) Perry, Corey
6) Rivet, Craig
7) Kostitsyn, Andrei

LoneRogue :
1) Kovalev, Alex
2) Koivu, Saku

TCIH :
1) Crosby, Sidney
2) Nabokov, Evgeni
3) Campbell, Brian
4) Vlasic, Marc-Edouard
5) Sykora, Petr
6) Staal, Jordan
7) Latendresse, Guillaume

Komisarek_Freak :
1) Datsyuk, Pavel
2) Gonchar, Sergei
3) Kiprusoff, Miikka
4) Green, Mike
5) Backstrom, Nicklas (WSH)
6) Langkow, Daymond
7) Jagr, Jaromir

Jeffonfire :
1) Plekanec, Tomas
2) Forsberg, Peter
3) Brodeur, Martin
4) Streit, Mark
5) Richards, Mike

2) Higgins, Chris
3) Richards, Brad
4) Phaneuf, Dion

6) Burns, Brent
7) Tanguay, Alex

HarryI :
1) Price, Carey
2) Getzlaf, Ryan
3) Rafalski, Brian
4) Markov, Andrei
5) Drury, Chris
6) Gomez, Scott
7) Kostitsyn, Seigei

Chomsky :

5) Semin, Alexander
6) Malone, Ryan

******

Funny facts :

-Only one Bruins has been taken. (1 Devils, 1 Flyers, 0 Preds)
-Latendresse has been drafted BEFORE Jagr.
-Mike Fischer has been drafted in mid round (changed it cause we all pitied Jeff)
-3 habs has been drafted in first round.
-TCIH picked players from 3 teams. He better hopes the Penguins and Sharks wont get eliminated in first round.

I still can't believe how hard Lone Rogue went on the Calgary-Montreal SCF matchup.

In hindsight, Gaborik might have been a reach on my 2nd pick but he led me to dominance in the last pool I was in (2004) so I had to have him again.

I wanted to pick Mike Richards but Jeff was too baby because he picked Mike Fisher that we let him re-choose...

I also predicted MTL vs CALGARY scf matchup. My friends think it'll be MTL vs SJ, personally, I don't think SJ has the depth, if Thornton got injured they'd be finished, also think they'll choke. Also think Detroit loses to Nashville somehow in the first round.

I just added a team for neofury (he was afk when we were doing it last night). He's picking scraps that are left over from the draft. His team:

neofury
(1) Mike Ribeiro
(2) Kristian Huselius
(3) Jason Arnott
(4) Milan Michalek
(5) Dan Ellis
(6) Kimmo Timonen
(7) Braydon Coburn

Ovechkin, as #2 overall, is quite surprising.

Is that because you think Washington won't go too far?
