It also helps to host the Nationals twice and have a third hosted by your conference. It is easy to recruit when you already have your ticket to the big dance.
I recall some UNB people talking about recruits from out West who came to UNB rather than be part of the "machine" at UofA. UNB is becoming the very thing they used to disdain.
Players are going to start asking themselves: " Why am I not playing when (player X) is getting big minutes at Acadia and I'm as good as he is? " When that happens, guys will tell their buddies back in Junior not to go to UNB.

With the U of S hosting Nationals in 2013-14, Dave "Hitler" Adolf was trying to recruit him. One look at the stable called "Rutherford" (rink) and that would have most players running from Banjo land. Yes Dale, even to the Maritimes!

The only place I can think of is from the SSN site....but it only goes back to January and are mostly games against X/Acadia/Dal (ie/ other SSN teams) along with the games from Nationals.

It is too bad we can't watch highlightes from games recently played.
A lot of NCAA teams and a handful of CIS teams put up clips on youtube.

I know we used to be able to purchase full games that were played.

Yeah it would be nice to have something like that....even put them on the UNB site with the game story or something like that.

I dont see many CIS teams other than myself (RMC) and Toronto putting clips in youtube. I get tons of feedback about my videos and how its good for RMC and for the league

Also, the site that does St Mary's games, these guys, http://events.news-cast.com/
has this season's SMU games archived for free. They used to do UNB as well, in fact I think the company still operates out of UNB, or Fredericton, so they were the guys that had their games archived. Before last season I used to pay these guys about 5$ a game too.

I'm surprised more teams don't do this...just seems like a cheap and relatively easy way to bring attention/interest to your program.

Ottawa puts player interviews on youtube, some in french some in english depending on whichever language the player is most comfortable with. They also have an active facebook site.

Laurier only puts up their highlights infrequently, but when they do, they do a really good job of it. The filming is actually of a high quality and they usually show good plays and all the goals. Here was their one from last night:

I really enjoy when teams put up highlights. The archiving of games is nice too. As this is a UNB thread, I remember their final against Western a few years ago I went back to and re-watched part of the game.

As far as I know, right now those two games are NOT scheduled to be webcast by UNB. Probably kinda tough to get volunteers to come out and do the game during the holidays.

Darryl Boyce has been recalled by the Leafs to replace Colby Armstrong. Leafs host Buffalo Thursday night.

Just a heads up to anyone who hasn't bought their CIS passes yet....I was at the AUC today to get my tickets to the games against Ottawa and asked how sales were going for Nationals. Apparently they are ahead of schedule and way ahead of last year...so anyone who plans on going this year probably shouldn't wait too much longer.

UNB Hockey Alum (1999-00), and one-year wonder, Colin Beardsmore was on the German club team, EHC Wolfsburg, that defeated Canada in the quarter-finals of the Spengler Cup.

Colin has 10 points in 31 games this season.

Here is a link to his career stats at EliteProspects.

I was able to watch both webcasts and must say that the pbp announcer and the colour commentator were both excellent and a notch above what I have experienced from the OUA. (Ottawa's webcasts could be just as good but I wouldn't know I don't understand French) Thanks for the headsup.

UNB adds recruit

On top of getting Geordie Wudrick (who had 35 and 43 goal seasons in the WHL) according to "Taking Note" which is the best WHL Blog out there, the V-Reds have picked up Shayne Weibe.
Weibe scored 44 goals last season in Brandon.
Basically this means UNB has brought in the only two 40 goal scorers out of the WHL available who have gone on to the CIS.
The Rich get Richer.

If this is correct, there are going to be a lot of pissed off players in that dressing room! Two more players that will be pushed out of the lineup and that's not including Robbie Drummond, who seems to be a mystery. That would be 4 new faces, with the addition of Chad Denny. I can't see Denny cracking the lineup leading into Nationals. Also, Clendenning will be back and they will need to get him into that lineup.

According to hockeydb.com Wiebe has played 12 games in the AHL this year....he turns 22 later this month, so he wouldn't be eligible until next year would he? Can you play pro without any eligibility issue UNTIL you turn 21, or UP TO AND INCLUDING your 21 year old season? I know this has been discussed to death on here but I always forget how the rules work.

Here is the post from the Taking Note blog (can be found under the Just Notes section of today's post): "F Shayne Wiebe (Kamloops, Brandon, 2007-11) has been released by the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps and will join the University of New Brunswick Reds, who are the defending Canadian university champions. The 21-year-old Wiebe, who is from Brandon, had four assists in 12 games with the IceCaps, the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets. . . ."

http://gdrinnan.blogspot.com/

I wonder if Bailey had any influence on his decision??
