GDT:Lightning @ Predators 2-5-04

@

Your Nashville Predators face the Tampa Bay Lightning at 7pm tonight on the Gaylord Entertainment Center ice downtown.

The Lightning are leading the Southeast Division in the Eastern Conference with 63 points. The Predators are in second place in the Central Division of the Western Conference with 60 points.

This is the first and only meeting between the two teams this season. Last season, they played twice - the Predators won 3-2 in Nashville and tied 2-2 in Tampa.

Both teams played Tuesday night: the Predators lost 4-1 at home to the Detroit Red Wings, while the Lightning lost 2-1 at Washington.

Tonight's game is not locally televised. The broadcast will be on the Predators' flagship station, WTN 99.7 FM, and Predators' radio affiliates in Huntsville/Decatur, Hohenwald, Hopkinsville, Maryville, and Oak Ridge.

curses! I quite deliberately didn't make a GDT for this game, for fear of invoking more wrath from the malevolent hockey gods. well, if this game goes awry...everyone remember:

BLAME SPANK!

Big game, again. Need a win before the break. I expect Vokoun to bounce back and have a strong game, actually the whole team. Need to play a full 60 minutes!!! Both teams coming off a loss so both want a win before the break. Should be a good game with both teams battling hard.

*Hopefully the flooding rains wonít keep people from coming out (though certainly understandable tonight).

I was at the Tampa Bay - Capitals game on Tuesday. Tampa Bay poured shots on goal and Maxime Ouellet was unbelievable for Washington. I think the shot differential was 39-14 at the end of the game. Caps got a couple of well earned goals with the Lightning just not taking care of business in front of the net.

We need to watch out for TB. They won't be happy after that loss.

If my memory serves me correct, Vokoun thrives when facing more shots. He says its harder to get into a rhythm when he doesn't face many shots, or they come very sporadically. We need to play solid special teams hockey (i.e. 0 goals against, 1-2 goals for) and not let them have a lot of space to create scoring chances, because they are quite the talented team. Their defense can be exposed, we need to use speed and grit to win pucks and get in front of the net. Khabiblulin and Grahme seem to be splitting time as of late, with Khabs not playing his best hockey in his career - which means both of their goalies are quite possible of snagging a shutout or giving up 4+ on any given night. Lets go Preds, we need to go into the break with a little head of steam, not to mention gaining as many points as possible in the process.

Looks like you guys have quite a rain storm over there.... good luck to the boys, I'll be playing pickup hockey and driving 100 mph down the interstate to see if I can get back for the final 5 minutes of the 3rd...

Geez...lets hope we can use the break to fix some things, once again the PK needs work. Ugly game AGAIN, we CAN'T have these kind of games, especially at home. Best way to lose fans is lose games at home in this fashion.

PREDATORS: DO SOMETHING, DO NOT LET ME SEE THESE TYPE OF GAMES ANY LONGER!!!!!!!!! (i.e. come back and win this game, don't get down by 3 any more this season.)

***GOAL*** ARKHIPOV from Erat and Orszagh. Sounded like a great job of Erat and Orszagh, Arki crashed the net and whacked it in, maybe off of Khabibulin's back, as Petey made it sound. Either way, great job vowels!

Nope, it was behind Khabibulin, Arky saw it and deposited it.

ARKHIPOV.........GOOOAAALLLL!!!!!!!

Arky gets on a 2-1 break and slids it in 5-hole! YES, this is the something I wanted to hear, but 3-2 isn't good enough. We need to get 2 points boys!

Erat and Orszagh also gets the assist on the play.

We get a PP nearing the end of the 2nd. Schnabel draws it.

Ben freakin' Clymer scores...gets a 3-1 with him coming out of the box, and puts it off Vokoun's mask and into the net. 4-2 slightning.

Assisted by Stillman and Taylor

think about the season we'd be having if Vokoun was playing the way he did last year.

no kiddin'...he has shown flashes of it, but the consistency isn't there. maybe getting shelled in the all-star game, or pitchin a shut-out period of all-star hockey will help bring it (basically im hoping the all-star game will help him, one way or the other).

perhaps this will increase Arik's trade value with his two goals tonight...

I guess that burns your bread seeing Arkhipov score twice, doesn't it?
