Panthers might lose state subsidy

Panthers (and other professional teams in Florida) might lose state's annual subsidy, $2 million for a one year.
The House's sports franchise amendment still must be accepted by the Senate, which passed its budget Wednesday without the provision, and then signed by Gov. Charlie Crist.

There goes the free parking? But the silver lining is that hopefully this means the end of the amazing inflatable premium door giveaway prizes that you need to cut out a stupid non-pre-perforated ticket for (but you never remember to). (Actually, I didn't care for the giveaways, but I thought they were such a cheap trick that I just like to complain about it.)

Darn. This means we'll have to cut out a $2million contract.

Later, Stumpel.

Since there's still two steps left in the process of making this law, I've edited the thread title.

It looks like professional teams were able to keep their subsidy, state chose to cut funding for schools etc.

erm, heh...*ahem*...well...That's gotta be the funniest damn thing I've seen in a long time.

Now, mind you I just voted down my town's school budget yesterday (wonder if it passed?) - but even I would draw the line at cutting school funding to give pro sports teams a subsidy.

After all, there's plenty of other waste in government spending bills that could have been cut to fund those subsidies, if they were really necessary.

But that's just too much

It's true, I know that a lot of teachers have just been laid off in my area. It's funny because it's sad.

I do to. No reason to raise already absurd taxes all across the country.

Florida has no state income tax, so our taxes are far from absurd.

You still have sales tax and property tax, no?

And you're being taxed to finance a subsidy for professional sports, no?

ergo, your taxes are most certainly absurd, and that's only one instance.

My state's taxes are even more so...Vermont has the highest per capita rate of taxation in the United States, and every year they tax us more and cut back on vital government services (plowing, road/bridge maintenance, etc.), suggesting more and more of the money is going just to keep state workers employed.
