I've heard on the FAN960 (no link) that two teams -Toronto and Florida- are very close to signing their head coaches. In the next couple of days Toronto could announce Ron Wilson and Florida could announce Paul Maurice as their new head coaches.

Take it for what it is worth.

I'm sick of having an interest in people from Toronto. We should be focused more on people from teams that are perennial winners such as Detroit.

Maurice isn't a bad coach at all. I think he's actually pretty good. He coached a mediocre Canes team in 2002 to the SCF and actually won a game against an All-Star Detroit squad. I've never heard any of his former players ever say a bad word about him, he is praised by all players he's ever coached. I wouldn't mind him at all. People shouldn't put too much stock into his tenure in Toronto. I don't think even Scotty Bowman could have gotten them to the playoffs in the last 3 years.

John Tortorella fired

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=2396...s=topStory_nhl

Another coach on the market. When was the last time so many coaches have been canned before the offseason?

That's just hilarious. Tortorella gets fired and Feater keeps his job. That is pure comedy right there.

Wouldn't mind Tortorella here at all ... Just the kind of personality needed to offset the much more stoic Martin.

I just think we need someone like Torts for a short period of time to get our guys heads screwed on right. After that, I think coaches like him lose their appeal to players and get tuned out.

I agree with you . He had squat to work with in Toronto . He did the best he could with the leafs . He shows emotion and is a players coach , which is good. He wouldnt be first on my list but i would welcome him aboard , if hes chosen to be are coach.

Torts is a clown. A version of Keenan IMO. He can be a good coach for some team in the NHL, just hopefully he's not coaching this one.

I just don't see Bouw signing. I hope I'm wrong, but I can't see it at all.

First of all, if we added Savard to the scouting department, that would be awesome.

Secondly, GR also had something to say about Bouw in his Q&A section of the Panthers page that I saw earlier today, and it sounded a lot more negative than what he said in his blog...

"I'm hearing Jay and his people still have not really talked to the Panthers. Could see this one not ending well for the Sunrise Six..."

http://www.miamiherald.com/qna/forum...rge/index.html

Now, that's his opinion right there, that it doesn't look good for Bouw and the Panthers. I hope he's wrong.

For years I have thought we'd have a problem signing Bouwmeester. I really think he wants to play for Edmonton or just not here.

Although he lives in Edmonton, I've heard he doesn't really want to play for the Oilers. I have no idea if he wants to play in Florida or not, I haven't been able to get that kind of information.

Yeah, I've also heard from some Oilers fans that he doesn't want to play in Edmonton.
