Are you referring to the same BlackhawkZone.com thread mentioned in this post, which was just closed?

Anyone else hear of this and what do people think?

How can they go from asking for Fischer from Detroit to getting Jason King?

By getting punched in the face by Ken Holland? That's what I'd do if someone offered me Zhamnov for the low, low price of Jiri Fischer.

At least Brad May isn't soft.

And Jason King DOES have promise. I bet you if we trade him, he'll light it up in Chicago.

if he didn't have promise then he'd have zero trade value...

if this deal happens, I can't say I'd be disappointed by it... it's not like we're giving up a lot for it, and it does improve our team this year... it also leaves us with enough assets to still try and land that right winger...

We'd give up an AHLer and a draft pick for a solid NHL player. Who wouldnt do that?

also posting here cause the other thread is closed....

why was that thread closed... it was just a discussion thread... it "asked" if there was confirmation for a rumoured deal - it didn't say there was a deal without a source....

I just find that too many threads get closed even though the discussion on it is totally legit.

Agreed. The only way I would like to see the Canucks get Archie is if it fairly cheap, King and a 2nd isn't overpaying IMO. When names such as Auld, Kesler and Koltsov are mentioned, that's when I have a problem with it. If this deal does happen(or something similar) I see the Canucks putting Archie between Nazzy and Bert and Morrison dropping down to line 2B between Cooke/Arvedson(whoever is ready for the postseason, if either) and Linden. Not bad IMO, but I'd still rather see a winger such as Satan, O'Neill or Bondra come to the Canucks, even though the asking price would be quite a bit higher. I would also suspect that Burke would try to get one of Chicago's defensemen as well, most likely Poapst or Strudwick, in any deal with Chicago. Either could probably be had for a 4th round pick.

zhamnov is a safe pick-up. at least it gives us a 2nd liner. imo if this trade did go down, burke might trade a guy like lindgren or may for a #7 d-man.

our lineup would be like, imo

Naslund - Morrison - Linden
Sedin - Sedin - Bertuzzi
Arvedson - Zhamnov - Cooke
Ruutu - Chubarov - Keane

Jovanovski - Ohlund
Sopel - Allen
Malik - Salo
#7 Dude we traded with may or lindgren

Cloutier
Hedberg

Another thing to keep in mind, if Zhamnov leaves the Canucks via UFA at season's end, the Canucks will likely receive a compensatory pick for losing him(depending on certain factors). It could be as high as a mid 2nd rounder, or lower. It would probably be a mid 3rd rounder, like the Canucks got when Cassels left. When you factor the compensatory pick into the equation, the Canucks aren't losing all that much, and that is if the Canucks don't re-sign Zhamnov.

zhamnov is a career 60 point player who may get 50 in a bad year and 70 in a good year. although i am not terribly ecstatic about his stats and the fact that he isn't a sniper or a goal-scorer, but he is much more established than king that is for sure

If it did go down, I see our lineups more like:

Naslund-Zhamnov-Bertuzzi
Cooke-Morrison-Linden
Sedin-Sedin-Arvedson
...

I don't see our defense combos changing at all, especially those first two combos which I can't see happening.

I don't think Zhamnov would be centering the 3rd line, he's just not made for that type of role. He's not poor defensively, but he is pretty soft and not a good checker. He's suited for a playmaking role, where his main goal is to set up his linemates. He'd be awesome between Nazzy and Bert, but only if he made a stronger commitment to defense, as well all know how hard Mo works defensively. Speaking of Morrison, he's proven that he can play in a checking role and still put up good offensive numbers.

I wouldn't really bank on the compensation pick for Zhamnov..

if they did acquire him, he, Arvedson, Keane and Lindgren are all UFAs after this season... I can't see the Canucks not signing any UFAs in the offseason - and if they do, they lose the compensation pick.

Same here. Even if Arvie is back I don't really feel that the Sedins need a set linemate. It would certainly be nice to have a sniper on their wing(would rather have one then Zhamnov), but the Sedins have shown over the last month and a half that they will get the job done no matter who is on their line. Double shifting Naslund and Bertuzzi and putting guys like Ruutu or Linden on their line on occasion may be just as good of an option. I do like the looks of those 3 lines though, here's hoping Arvie and Cooke are back in time for the post-season!

I thought they only lose the compensatory pick if they signed a player to a contract worth more than the player they lost? I know that they're other factors as well(payroll, ammount the lost player signs for), but I'm not so sure about the signing player's factor. I'm pretty sure the Canucks signed Lindgren the offseason they lost both Cassels and Lachance, and they received compensatory picks.
