Getting uglier?

First 2 or 3 games after the break could be interesting. Starting w/ a back to back against the Devs & Flyers. Not even counting Saturday's game against the Flyers again, there's a realistic change that we wake up on Friday morning, on the heel of loosing the previous 2 games by a combined 10-0 score. Or wake up on Sunday realizing that we lost the last 3 games by a combined score of 15-2 (Jags gets one or 2).
The Rangers are a very fragile team. You can tell that the players don't buy into ANYTHING that Sather has to say. Holik and Sather seem to not only be on sperate pages, but they might as well be reading different books on different continents. We're playing 2 teams that LOVE to bury us. Anyway, if we are blown out (and what indication do we have that this won't happen?) in the next 2 games (we'll hold off on Saturday's game), do Dolan and Jackass finally realize that we are not a playoff team and we can finally start to sell in an effort to become a better team in the future? And then, if the games are ugly losses (as most of the last 12 games have been), does Sather's situation finally get ugly? I say finally becuase apparently everyone except Dolan recognizes what is going on? If the Flyers and Devils just $hi. all over us, does if force Lil' Jimmy to recognize reality and act upon it?

There could be a reverse effect though too TB. Maybe, while Glen's been at the GM meetings and the Mark Messier farwell tour rolls on solo, Renney's been holding secret practices at a covert location.

The next 2 games aren't just must-wins, they're make or break games for the season. Get ready to see just what this team is made of.

The very definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

It would be amazing to see what happens if Sather just tried to match lines, use the last change on home ice to his advantage and break up M&M and Leetch and Poti.

To Add to your point: The Islanders could win their next 2-3 games as well. I don't know what their schedule is, but assuming we lose both back to back games and saturday, and the Islanders, playing the same number of games this week, win their three, we're 14 points out of a playoff spot with 20 some odd games remaining. Of course, 14 points could be made up, but at what point to Slats and Co. just chalk it up as a lost season and go for the high draft pick and fire sale? Try do things right when hockey resumes after the CBA conflict.

This is the very philosophy that irks the hell out of me with this team. The losing isn't so bad if their was a decent reason behind it. But they keep trying the same formula again and again and again and it continues to produce the same results. This team is no more better or worse than the previous 6. Why won't they change their approach to the game. It's time to cut ties with Edmonton and bring in personnel that are willing to bring the team into the 21st century.

Most of the players Sather could look to move...

are players in the final year of their contracts - Kovalev, Mironov, Simon, Malakhov, Rucinsky...Nedved has a team option for next year, so he can easily be let go. And, while Poti is signed for next year, he is up the year after that.

Well only Leetch, Poti, Holik, de Vries, Kasparaitis, Jagr, Dunham and Markkanen have contracts for next season. The rest of the team is either on one year deals or at the end of their contracts. So, I think teams could take on an 1/4 of a contract if they want a player who could help them win the Cup.

Ugliness is in the eyes of the beholder...A three game demolishing by the Devils and Flyers and any following chaos would be a beautiful way to start to the "2nd half"...It's the only glimmer of hope that somehow, someday Sather will be fired or that even the Buffoon from Banf-f-f-f will finally realaize that he must deal anybody and everybody (Nedved, Kovalev, Poti, Leetch, Messier, Barnaby, Rucinsky and SImon------Maladog and Krispy Kreme would be a wet dream) and focus on improving what is right now a very bleak future......Hey, and at the same time, we could get a better draft pick...

Who knows what really is going on? There was a report that had Holik and Jagr taking it upon themselves to pratice some things that can be done on the PP. Wonder what Jackass thinks of his players practicing things he does not. Seeing as how this team has had exactly one official team practice since Jagr has been acquired.
I would even go further in the make or break scenario. It does no good to just win 2 games here. To me, they would have to beat the Devs and sweep the Flyers if they want to show that they are serious. Chances are minimal. Come Wednessday night, if the Devs get off to a quick start, I look for a serious meltdown for the rest of the game. And if Wednessday's game is another debacle, then Thursday's and Saturday's games against the Flyers will be even moreso of one. It does not take much to break this fragile teams psyche right now. A sound drubbing on Wednessday and Thursday will be a sign that this team has already mailed it in and all games following it will be similar.

This team has operated under the same MO for the past several years. If forms follows, they will play just well enough to stay in the playoff hunt until just before the deadline at which point Sather will have to bring in a player or two as he chases that 8th seed. Then, sometime after the deadline, the team will wilt and finish 9th or 10th.

Given the fact that this scenario has pretty much played itself out the past six years, I see no reason why it would change this year. I'm hoping it does but I don't see it.
