Have a feeling that Andreas Johansson will end up in Russia again though.
I agree on Damgård. I think he's shot along with Weihager could take care of the PP, that is if Banham doesn't sign...if Banham does sign, it will make things interesting, more options on the PP point

Good to see that they seem to have given up on the Finns, there have been too many of them in Malmo the last couple of seasons...

what the hell? Now TV2 is reporting that Percy Nilsson wants to move Malmö Redhawks to the Danish league. It is really one of the dumbest things i've heard (considering how weak the Danish league is comparitively to All-Svenskan).

It is really illogical...I cannot understand why.

Think it should be taken with a grain of salt. Percy loves to stir things up and he also always interested to head for new territories in hockey. I mean a couple of weeks ago, he talked about merging Malmö, Rögle and a Danish team IIRC.

Sometimes his ideas work like when he let money talks and brought in a bunch of players in the late 80s - the way all SEL teams work nowadays. He not only turned a 2nd-tier league team into 2-time Swedish Champs in a couple of years, but he also created a much bigger interest for hockey in Malmö.

Sometimes they don't work though like when he tested the reality TV grounds and tried if it would work with a hockey team.

Anyway, Damgaard signed with Malmö today.

This will probably be the most interesting edition of Allsvenskan in a really long time! Can't wait for the season to begin.

Could be a winner signing. He used to have a heckuva nose for the net, and in Allsvenskan where the game goes straight to the net... He could put up some interesting numbers.

Considering some of the players the Danish league signs... I doubt the gap would be that big.

It is a big step backwards. I used to live in Aalborg, a fan of AaB who at the time was constant silver medalists in Denmark. While it was nice to watch, good atmosphere, the quality wasn't there. Even when Malmo played a 'Danish national team' (consisting the best Danish league players) they won 3-1. Last preseason we destroyed Odense Bulldogs 6-0 also. Danish teams probably could compete with the Almtuna's of the league, but Malmo are ahead of them at this stage

So it is a drop, and there would be nothing to aspire to. At least at the end of All-Svenskan there's a chance to go up to Elitserien, a level of better hockey with much more money and chances for Malmo. Particularly for the players, they'd have no motivation coming to play for a Danish league team which won't see the light of day that is Elitserien.

I talked to a friend who suggested that relocating wasn't the point, moreso Percy was interested in having a new team using the Redhawks brand in the Danish league (something like Copenhagen Redhawks) being like an academy for young quality Danish players, and forwarding them into the Swedish system with Malmo when they are good enough. This plan, be it true and the intention, would be an excellent idea, with all the Danish talent coming these last years.

Any linkage?

He's already committed to Boston for training camp, and his Swedish based agent has said they have an agreement with Malmo only if he doesn't play for the Boston Org. this season.

Boston's GM has also quoted him as saying he wants to play in NA this season, and even though he wants to start in the NHL, he will allow the "chips to fall where they may" on two separate occasions.

Edit: found the article in question and it references the Malmo site as their source.

http://www.malmoredhawks.com/engines/page___3551.aspx

Seems to be this is only in place if he doesn't play in Boston.

They kind of use misleading terminology as well, maybe someone can let me know if I lost something in translation.

Was there an actual signed contract put in place, or did they just arrive at an agreement?

Also, it stipulates that he will play in Malmo only if he doesn't play in Boston... Is there anything in the article that specifies "Boston" as being the NHL roster only? Providence (the clubs AHL affiliate is very much a part of the Boston org.).

And so Percy resigns. Again. Guess he'll be back in a season or two.

I just read that. Not sure if it will have much impact on the club (as I don't know so much about the guy) but hopefully the club will be going in the right direction.

Re Söderberg, my bad...I didn't read the article as I was in transit, someone told me about it and I just saw the headline.

A season or two? My bet is that he'll be back before '08 ends.

Oh well, HA will be quite interesting this year. A lot of quite good teams atleast on the paper.

Apparently MIF made a loss of 38 million SEK last season. That's quite astonishing.

Thing is, with some of the salaries they had on the books, you can kinda understand why. Also the inabilities to entice the Malmö public to have interest seeing their team beat Huddinge or Almtuna by 5 goals. (playing like garbage)

With season ticket prices going down this year (from what they told me, when they called me and asked if I wanted to renew my seasoncard, its 300kr less than last season) and no matches vs Rögle BK (until Kvalserien anyway), this year looks like it will sting too. They really need to go up by next year though, otherwise we'll be in big strife.

And so Jonas Höglund signs.

As usual MIF are top contenders on paper.
