Who do you see as being the 5 teams that would most likely disappear from the league completely, based on their financial situations and fan base?

This would be assuming it would happen as an effect of a possible lockout.

I'm going to say Philly, but only because this thread comes up once a week and I know that saying that would really get under your skin.

Pittsburgh, Carolina, Anaheim, Tampa Bay/Florida ( I have a feeling that only one team in Florida would be able to survive after a lockout). The 5th I don't know.

How would the Canadian teams disappear? If anything their owners would benefit from a lockout because they wouldn't lose any money and when the NHL came back, hockey is the number one sport so the fans would come back.

Toronto, Rangers, Detroit, Philly, Colorado. Eliminating the biggest spenders is the best way to reduce league-wide player salaries

Anaheim, Florida, Carolina and Pittsburgh...#5 I don't know...I hesitate to say someone like Phoenix, who just built that new arena and does have a very enthusiastic fan base...I hate to see Atlanta go, I really do...I guess if I was hard pressed I would have to say both teams in Florida...though I kinda hate to see any of them disappear.

Interesting how almost all Canadian fans want to deny the idea that Ottawa along with many of the Western Canadian teams have any financial problems.

I would certainly want all the Canadian teams to stay, but to say that Tampa would be more in danger than Ottawa is well, baseless.

Ottawa isn't having problems financially, their last ownership group was, but now that billionaire Eugne Melnyk owns the team, they aren't in dire straights.

As for the Western Teams, I guess the thinking is that under a new CBA, hopefully one that allows all teams to be competetive, the Canadian teams would have the advantage of having a much stronger fan base. But under a system like this, it's unlikely any team moves.

These 'eliminate teams' threads are getting a little assinine. There have just been too many of these threads lately.

I think people just get a perverse kind of joy in seeing Pittsburgh, Anaheim, Carolina, Calgary and Nashville or whomever singled out on these things.

All you guys who say Phoenix needs to go infuriates me! We got a new arena. Yet you guys think that we're the 1st one on the chopping block. You guys are so wrong that it's not even funny. Give us a few years, and we will be off that list like there's no tommorow.

My list,

Atlanta
Carolina
Pittsburgh
Florida

I won't pick a 5th team.

I've got to agree here, but I think Oakland is on the bubble as well.

No offense to you in particular, BigMac, you just happened to remind me, but why do fans of a team that's 'on the block' --whether titled that erroneously or not--always find it necessary to point the finger at other teams when they don't know anything about the financial set-up of those teams?

P.S.: I wish that all fans would have to experience the 'back to the wall' feeling that comes with supporting a team who's future existance is perceived by the masses as non-existant. Maybe asinine threads like these wouldn't come up so often, then.

If this is because of financial status, why all the hate to Anaheim? Anaheim has a very decent fan base, not to mention a very rich owner. Hell, when you buy Cinderella on DVD, you're helping Fedorov pay for his new Ferrari.

I see the trend.. If you are an up and coming young team, you automatically end up being named in this tread.
