MN hockey piece on ESPN

Got some nice bits to it. Good point about Norm Green in there.

Of course, I was upset they didn't spend more time on the early dominance of the Range teams in the state tourney and how money and open enrollment changed it forever, but I'm a curmudgeon.

I'm with you there Ceber - it went from iron range to cake-eater suburban dominated affair.

Open enrollment didn't just kill the hockey tourney. Look at the football tourney. Are there more then 5 teams in the state?

I don't follow high school football at all, so I dunno about it much, but I'm sure the effect would be the same, probably worse. And, for the record, I don't think open enrollment killed the tourney, just changed it. It's still one heck of a tournament. It's just kinda sad that some teams will never get the chance to compete in the same way they did in the past, I guess.

Great story! They even mentioned my home town! I was born and raised in Roseau, MN! Its always exciting to see national media write storys about little towns. They should have mentioned that Roseau is either first or second place (i think first, with St. Paul Johnson in second) for the most apperances in the state tourney!

Maybe I'm a sap, but that one got to me.
