OT: I need your opinion

So I recently had to direct a short film for a scholarship to the Vancouver Film School. I am simply looking for feedback on the film that I made so I can possibly change a small few things around.

The film had to be under 3 minutes and fit under the theme "What Matters to You?"

The concept is good.

Imho; you need to make the cuts shorter to introduce an element of drama. I mean you need to inject incertainty.

And that sould be done with shorter scenes progressivley at the short film goes on.

And THEN... you slow it up quickly to introduce a contrast with the 1st line; "Nice shoes".

Besides a few of the camera angles being a little off. I thought it was really good.

Hey man,

Really enjoyed your short. What I got from it was the importance of having a voice. Not allowing yourself to be silenced by the world. Film has the chance to give you that voice. I like the world that you were able to create in the amount of time you had to work with. It had a nice arch and you could see the journey the main character takes from confusion, to discovery, to being trapped, to being silenced.

I liked the way that you shot the film, good work to mask the car to make it look like a taxi. Did you shoot on mini DV? It's hard without all the right equipment to block out all the surrounding sounds, especially outside, so you could hear the sound differences from cut to cut...but that's pretty damn hard to really be able to change. The lighting on the cab driver wasnt really clear when he turned around to see the tape over his mouth. It was really dark so you could just barley see the tape. Not sure if that was how you were intending it to come out or not. Well done on the Habs flag at 1.:29...you get bonus points on that one! lol.

I really enjoyed it man and think you got some skills. Good luck with the scholarship...hope you are able to get it and kick some ass at film school!!

I think that's the main weakness. Besides that I enjoyed it.
