I think the Swede factor is bigger than going to a competitive team, as evidenced by the original Vancouver direction. My bet is he'll still sign with Vancouver.
Ryder, Dandenault, Smolinski...Little Kost on a line with Lappy and one of Lats or Higgins would be a great 3rd line, hardly "grinders".

They said the same thing about Malkin.

The Habs cant attract the big name free agents and this may be a home run. If he doesnt work out buying him out. This and the trotter signings is how the habs increase their chances at a home run. I would also like to see the Locke's traded away for low low draft picks with a better chance to acquire a a Alfredsonn, Recchi etc who didnt go in their first year but may be worth a flier with a 6th round pick.

A Kost - Plex - Kovy (Dominant all year, except in the playoffs so far)
Latendresse - Koivu - Brunnstrom (Koivu and Latendresse produce well together)
Higgins - Grabovski - S. Kost (Speed, speed, speed)
Stewart/Begin/Kostopolous - Chipchura - Lapierre (Grind/Checking Line)

I can see him signing with the Laffs, especially if Sundin comes back for 2 more years. Toronto has the opening on the two top lines and the dough once they start dumping some players.

Too many centres, not enough ice time for Higgins (two years in a row a 20 goal scorer who is improving every year) compared to a dude who has 9 goals in 54 games as a winger with lots of ice time in the Swedish Elite League.

Considering all entry-level deals are two-way deals, I see no risk here at all. While I think he's being very overhyped, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

We didn't even have a legit 2nd line RW for most of the year.
i agree. it would be great if he signs with the habs. the guy has apparently a lot of potential... and if he sucks, we'll just have to send him to the minors or let him go. i would prefer giving this guy a chance instead of having overpaid 4th liners at 1.8 million or 1.2 million.

I wouldn't mind the Habs signing him, though. Like I said, we don't have any prospects like him. Better to sign a healthy, young player to a 2 million dollar contract than a veteran player signed until he's past his prime for 6 million +.

Actually it's 3 years in a row 20 goal scorer

Exactly he wants top 6 minutes, his stats arent impressive, and a lot of people are saying he's very overrated, including all the members from Sweden on here.

My bad. Point stands.

Three years 20 + goals in the NHL >>>>> 9 goals in SEL.

I'm just going by the way Higgins struggled with Koivu. Higgins still would be able to get his minutes playing on the PP and PK but the truth is i'd rather Bob go after a proven guy like Hossa instead of an unproven guy like Brunnstrom as who knows how good he will really be.

Hossa doesn't work either. Too much salary with so many players in need of raises.

LOL, no one said that. There were questions if he would be a true superstar, but that was pretty much it.

How can he be the real deal? He never even played in the NHL and wasn't drafted. And as to our 2nd line RW, I'll take Andrei Kostitsyn or Sergei over him.

Ok, so we are gonna remove icetime to our future key players like S.Kost, A.Kost, Higgins, and so on, to give it to a Free Agent who never played a game in the NHL?... Make sense..

Malkin's situation was completely different. Brunnstrom is being compared to Alfredsson, but he's still very raw. He's very skilled, but he's also very raw in his own zone. He's more of a project than an impact player to be honest.

At this point, I think he really is.

he could replace Ryder on the second line. It's worth a shot imo. If Gainey is interested in him, then I'm sure he's pretty decent

Okay, promise him top 6 time. If he doesn't earn it and we see no reason to continue to keep him on our team, send him back to Sweden and let another team have him once his rights expire with us. Or we trade him and get an asset out of nothing.

Exactly, tell him we'll name him captain, why not. Once he's signed, we can do whatever the hell we want, we have the upper hand then.

Haven't seen him play, only know what i've read. It seems to me if Gainey is trying to sign him, our scouts have given him good reports.

I wonder how many people saying forget him will be ready to burn Gainey in effigy if he doesn't sign him & the kid turns into an Alfredson type player.

If we sign him Gainey/Carbo will find a place for him and others who deserve it.

I hope they get him, if they truly want him.

I don't understand how this guy eluded everyone's radar for so long, but is now apparently so incredible that he's worthy of top 6 minutes and several teams pursuing him.

It all sounds like hype to me.
