Goodbye, Mr. Vyborny

Vybes' tenure as a Jacket is now officially over, with him signing to play over in Europe.

http://www.sportovninoviny.cz/ (I'll work on the translation when I get a chance)

Consider this thread an opportunity to share stories, video clips, etc. on an original Jacket who was a favorite of many fans.

Best wishes to DV and his family; I hope he comes back to Nationwide sometime so that he can get the tribute from the fans that he deserves (and I'm not talking about retiring his number).

I think his effort and talent was something special for us to see, especially during the very rough years of mediocrity for this team.

Loved watching the guy play. Finesse, control, speed, smarts, mature. He scored a lot of big goals for us.

Good luck, Vybs!

My post from another thread where this was mentioned.

I know Vybes had a terrible year, but damn I'll miss him. Hope we can bring him back for a David Vyborney day, and give him the send-off that he so richly deserves.

GL Vybes family, and thanks for your dedication to Columbus and some great memories!

Without David's consistent play thru our early years, I can't imagine how pathetic our records would have been. It is a shame his skills had to deteriorate as rapidly as they did. I always rooted for him and still will. Good luck to you in all your endeavors, David. I am happy you gave your best for the CBJ! Nothing but a class act.

Sad, but time for him to move on. Hopefully Voracek will take his spot in the Top 6...

Vybes got the yips.

In 20 years from now I'll remember him as our best player from the early years. I wish him all the best in Europe.

Take er easy Vybes.

Echo ortho's sentiments. I will ad that I, for whatever reason, picked Vybo as my favorite Jacket in that first camp. He struggled early to the point I figured he didn't have a future with the team as it moved forward. Then he busted out a month or so into season three (is my memory right on this?) and had pretty much been the stalwart for the CBJ until this season. Now it appears my earlier sense has come to pass. He will be missed.

Too bad he never got to play in a playoff game. I wonder what the record is for most NHL games played without playing in a single playoff game?

Who gets his vacated A?

Chimera is my first guess.

So that would make:

C - Nash
A- Klesla
A - Chimera
A- Modin

Guy Charron 734 games
Olli Jokinen 721 games

further down the list...

David Vyborny 543 games

The crappy thing in all of this is that Vybe's NHL career was ended by a good friend, Martin Erat. It was interesting to read in Dr. Fire's commentary regarding the STH Q&A (entry #50 of this thread http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=507903&page=2 )about how Vyborny was not the same after that hit that took out his knee because I remember thinking how he was just never the same after that but couldn't put my finger on why.

Goodbye Mister Vyborny. You may be leaving our team but you will always have a place in the heart of Blue Jackets fans.

I love Vyborny, but the reasons for his struggles this season sort of tainted my fond memories a bit. A good source told me that he was stunned by Howson's unwillingness to sign him to an extension before the season began and he pretty much just went through the motions this season as a result. The "I want to stay as long as they want me" quote was made under the assumption that he was going to be resigned - when that didn't happen, David's attitude quickly soured.

Still, I wish the guy all the best and hope he visits again someday.

naa it was season 2. He was the only player on the Jacket rooster not to drop in PPG.

Good luck Vubs and thanx for the fun, God bless you!
