Rathje or Drury. Who would you rather have?

If Dougey well resign Scott Thorton to a 2 year extension. You dont think Rathje well resign? San Jose is Rathje's home. He has played here his hole career, things are starting to come around, the coaching staff and managment love the guy. He'll stay.

I think it also depends on a teams needs.

If we are living in a vacuum and a team needs both a scoring forward or a defensive defensman, or if they need neither, I'd take Chris Drury as i feel he has the bigger impact potential of the two.
But on my Pens, right now, I'd take rathje for the obvious reasons...

TO me Rathje's worth has diminished over the past couple of years.

That said, I'mnot certain there is any point in their career I would have traded away Drury to get Rathje.

Simpy put, Drury was "clutch"....he isn't clutch anymore. Now that he is playing with guys less or equally as skilled as himself, he isn't making them any better, and they aren't making him anymore clutch than anyone else.

That Said, SJ's defense is one of the more solid in the league...and Rathje is a cornerstone of our top 4.

Odd Comparison.

If you had asked me this question a year ago, I would have said Drury. The guy seemed to have all the intangibles of a core player. He had stepped out of the spotlight in Colorado and was about to have a chance to become a star in Calgary. He was going to get the chance to get rid of the notion that he leetched off the Avalanche stars.

But after watching Drury's play first-hand in Calgary, and now judging his stats in Buffalo.. i'm not so sure. The guy's a second line forward, he's shown no signs of scoring more than 25 goals a year. He's a constant 20 goal guy, who's becoming increasingly inconsistent in his scoring over the years. He lights it up in the first month of the season, and then cools off considerably. Then you add in his large salary..

So bascially in my estimation you have an above average 2nd line scorer who lacks size but has an excellent reputation and a steady #4 d-man with huge size. It comes down to what you really need for your club. As much as i do like Drury, defence wins championships..... =Rathje.
